ABS Trouble

HI all!,

I went out and bought an Autel AL619 (http://www.autel.us/Products/al619.htm) I got that one so i can use it for my wife's car, if I need it.

SO, I bought it b/c I am getting the abs/dsc/tire pressure lights. It is intermittent. It comes on when i light a bump(sometime) or I take a corner quickly, or have -g on the car(topping a hill). I am getting the following code-copied straight form the the scan tool.

Fault Codes
5E14 NOT Present
CAN connection to DME/DDE (DSC lamp on until ignition reset)
5E5C NOT Present
Initialize Run Flat Indicator;see Owner's Handbook
5E19 NOT Present
CAN data error from DME/DDE (DSC lamp on as error is present)
5D90 NOT Present
Wheel-speed sensor, front left
5D91 NOT Present
Wheel-speed sensor, front left

I can't find much of anything that's helpful, and I don't want to to spend a bunch of money on an abs sensor if that is not the issue.

Looks like front left wheel speed sensor from the list....
Either a bad sensor (intermittent) or a wiring issue....just gotta look.
That's how I read the list anyway....

Yea, I would say the front left based on the read out. Dont know if that unit has as much data as the readout at the MINI dealerships when they do a full diagnotic read.

Here is a thread on the ABS sensor and what to look for. If its the sensor of the plug, or gunk on the sensor , check those first.

Thanks

I have read about hubs going bad as well. How can I check for that?I don't want to just buy both if I don't need to, those are expensive! Or is it more believable that it is the sensor since it says "not present"

The wheel bearing can rust on the back side enough over long period of time where the sensor sits and grind away at the head and grime can get in there and do the same thing. Its happens. Best thing is to check the connections and see if you can get a light behind the wheel bearing and check it out. Its tight but you can see the sensors barely behind the drive axle little metal shield towards the hub. Check the sensor at the plug in terminal. Its in the link above. For the hub itself being bad , wheel bearing wise you will get the growl, and the low pitch humming noise on the wheel that bad.

My car does seem to be growling more than it used to. I didn't really think anything about it since the A/C is running all the time now. I'll check it out tomorrow after work let you know if I find anything. Thanks for your help ECS and Zippy.
