Replacing OEM Nav with double din?

Hi all, I just purchased a 2006 Mini Cooper S that has the factory nav in the center panel. I don't have the car yet, picking it up this week but already making arrangements to have the sound system upgraded.

Does anyone know if i can remove the OEM nav and have room for a double din stereo touch display in that spot? i'm not sure if there is enough room behind it to do that.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

thanks, david

Pretty sure I've seen posts with people installing HU/Nav units, but that was in the place of the HU, not the Nav screen. I think the HVAC would get in the way up there.

The space is very shallow, only about 2 inches deep. There is essentially no space behind Nav screen.

People have installed double DINs in the center column area.

thanks for the feedback. that's what i was afraid of. yeah i saw the double din installation down low but i think it would look silly to have two screens in there.

darn. i was hoping to make better use of that nav panel. it's great real estate and a total waste since google maps is so much better.

i'm thinking of maybe doing something like this so i could mount my iphone there and use google maps that way. i have the 4s now and will get the 6 as soon as it comes out so i'll have a bigger screen.
