Wow! I just bought oil and a filter there (a few weeks ago) and it cost more than that!

I'll have to keep an eye on the coupons...

i have changed the oil on my 2012 countryman s all4 twice, but this thread got me curious so i called my dealer, Knauz Mini, Lake Bluff, Illinois, and asked the price for a non-covered oil change

they asked for model and year so i guess this could vary for different year/model cars

the cost is $90.88, including parts, labor, shop supplies, tax, topping the windshield washer fluid, interior vacuum and a car wash.

if scheduled in advance, a loaner car can be provided

i may have to rethink changing my own oil considering that the oil and filter cost alone is about half of that, plus i have to deal with transporting and disposing of the used oil/filter and they throw in the wash and vacuum

i must give Knauz Mini a big thumbs up , the parts guy has beat internet pricing on oil, filters, my checkered mirror covers, inside and outside, and the checkered valve stem caps

everyone there has been both professional and friendly and they have good coffee

Currently my dealer is running a coupon special price of $69.95 for an oil change.
Although the coupon is expired and the Clubman isn't one of the vehicles listed on the coupon, my SA told me they would honor that price for me.
It can't hurt to ask!

It is not all about the cost at the dealer. Other factors are in play. It takes about an hour to an hour and a half to change your Mini's oil if done to my satisfaction. I rotate (tires) and clean the wheels as I wait for the turbo to cool. I wash the car and spray wax it too. I never over fill or dent my door. Oil is not that hard to take to the local parts place for me.

I could not afford to pay myself to change my own oil so some dealers would be a better deal if I had to take off time from work to get it done. If you look at it that way you have to factor in the time it takes to drive to the dealer, wait and drive back. When you look at all the time it takes to purchase the material and the time it takes to do the work v.s. drive to the dealer and wait, inspect the job and pay them, I think about $70.00 at the dealer is about the fair price.

Oil filters $12+
Oil $40+
My time $?
Job satisfaction Priceless.

I am awaiting delivery of my MINI. When I bought it, I was told oil changes were provided free for the first 3 years. Is that a dealer specific incentive?

No, it's a factory/importer inclusive. BUT, it's only every 12K miles for the first three years... which many of us feel is going far too long between changes.

No, that's Mini service-included first 3 years/50k or something like that, but only when the car's service indicator TELLS you it's ready - as said above, that's too long for the first change, consider paying for one about 2-3kmiles - long enough to break-in the engine, short enough to get that break-in crap out.

I hit 75k not long ago, with no plans to ever get rid of the car, but am well outside the dealer-provided maintenance limit!

5 qt Castrol full-synth at a big box store: $27
Good Mini filter: well under $10 (I have a great car-parts store nearby)
Washer fluid: $2
= $39 for parts, and then I know it's done correctly.

Also, if you're near Irwin, PA, Schade Automotive knows Minis very well, their labor is inexpensive, trustworthy, and can be hilarious at times... go there!

The dealer wants 350 to do the A1 service on my wife's Mercedes C300, its an oil change and a lightbulb check. And I hear all the time about it costing up to 500 at some dealers. OH HELL NO! I like changing my own oil and her car and mine both use Mobile 1 0w-40 so I can buy it by the case and do it myself.

I am a control freak with my car so I like not having to let someone else touch it. And I get my jollies from smelling the oil as I drain it.

Oil change is $70. Includes topping off fluids, etc. They wash the car. And they have good coffee. :-)

Check around, then ask your dealer to match the best price you find. Or go to an independent MINI mechanic and keep the receipts.

AND it doesn't expire. Thanks for the tip, just printed it out for my first in between change!

I was shocked to hear what dealers are charging. I've changed oil and filter myself. I don't see anything difficult.

Taking ours in on the 21st.Beep Beep will have about 7500-8000 miles.
Had the oil changed at 1K and it is looking black now.
No oil usage found.
Read closer. The oil change special is $69.95. The $49.95 is an 'upgrade' which consists solely of replacing the cabin air filter. I just got a 6 pack of TYC cabin air filters for about the same price.

OK, the MINI Owner's Lounge site has a promo for an oil/filter change for $69.95 (+ $49.95 to replace the air filter). "Change Is Good" reads the headline in the sidebar.

HOWEVER... the very "Fine Print" says it's only good for R52 and R53 MINIs. But that's the same price MINI of Austin quoted me for my R55.

Thanks for the link! My extended maintenance plan expired and I'll be getting my first out of pocket oil service. My dealer, Mini of Concord, quoted $206 for an oil change...$249 for brake fluid service...$249 for coolant service...and suggested a $300+ fuel injector service. Needless to say, I'm looking at other options. How's your experience been with the Mini San Jose folks? Anybody else have opinions about them? Thanks in advance!

Regarding the $49.88 oil change......We had to bring our S in for warranty work plus a non scheduled oil change.I went to their site the day before and could not find the "$49.88 special",strange!I had to come back here to the link I posted to print the coupon, they did honer it.

No complaints. They gave us a free loaner car and our car was ready the next day.

You might consider a private shop for oil changes. Some are quite good. I get the impression that you're in the Silicon Valley. If Sunnyvale isn't out of the way, I highly recommend these guys: http://www.gms.cc/ .

I always supply my own oil (Amsoil) and they take care of the filter and drain plug gaskets. They always use factory oils, lubes and parts unless you tell them otherwise.

Oil Change Cheap

I just finished an oil change on my 2006 S Hatchback,34K miles,,,, 5 quart Container Full syn 5-30 Walmart Super Tech, $17.89( meets Corvette Specs). Wix Filter #57303 on line for 6.56 shipped Fleet Filters. I bought 6 at a time to get the price. 36 mm socket Amazon $9.00.
$25.00 total for future oil changes.
Note: I would like to shoot the engineer who picked the oil filter location. It is difficult to service and clean compared to ANY car that I have serviced in my 67 year lifetime to date...
You just have to take your time in accessing and removing the filter but it could have been located in an easier access location.

I'm getting ready for my first oil change on a '12 Cooper with 13k. Picked up 5w-30 Castrol and was shocked at the dealer price of $22 for the filter!? Double our sponsors prices?

I think the mileage oil change intervals for Mini are crazy... I change with synthetic every 4 to 5K miles but my cost is 25.00

I was quoted $74.00 for an oil change for my 2014 S hardtop (4,000 miles driven).

So, upon arriving at the Mini dealer, I asked the price of an oil change, $156 was the bold reply.

After picking myself up off the floor, I said "No thanks".

The service rep. was very courteous and proceeded to offer to top-up all the bodily fluids (LOL) for free, they also offered a free car wash, I was left wondering, what is it about owning a Mini that they would expect $156 for an oil change? They did top-up the fluids, I said no to the car wash.
