Drivetrain Resonator and 2nd Cat Delete - CM4
#27
Yes, they may say "Hey, look at that! The second cat and/or resonator is gone!".
All joking aside, I'm not really sure what you're worried about in that regard.
The law is quite clear in two categories.
1) The unit is downstream of the emissions system, and hence removing it does not violate any federal emissions regulations.
2) The warranty can only be voided for equipment directly following said modification. In fact, they would actually need to prove (by law) that the hypothetical issue was caused by said modification before voiding any such warranty.
You're in the clear if you choose to do this. It's worthwhile for the sound difference.

Ah I see. Thanks for the reply. I just had my resonator removed yesterday and there was a noticble difference in sound, however I want to make it a little louder by removing the cat, the shop didn't have a problem with it considering they asked if I wanted the seccond Cat deleted too lol. Do you know if my 2007 r56 would throw any CEL codes?

There's no way this can/will throw codes, as it is downstream of the sensors.
Only changing the primary cat can throw CELs.
Quite a few shops have reportedly not wanted to touch this, but the smart ones realize that anything after the second sensor is fair game (and won't get them fined harshly).

The MAF is a 2.75" hard pipe joiner. Slip the RU-1540 right onto the neck, tighten the clamp, viola.
The intercooler will net you a few positives without the tune. Namely, keeping the IATs down and preserving power as the temperature rises from sitting still, or plain overheating the stock (tiny) intercooler.
The tune from NM is absolutely the best bang-for-the buck mod for the R60. If you have an automatic model, you'll be limited to Stage 1. I was the guinea pig for a lot of auto torture, not going into that. lol

Theta,
Since you got both the tunes, which one do you recommend? I've talked to evolve but I think that'd be a hassle if anything goes wrong with my ECU.
Since you got the auto like me, do you recommend a downpipe with the NM stage 1?
I am gonna delete the 2nd cat but add a resonator since my plan is to add a catless DP. When I spoke to Jerry at NM and some guy at RennTech, they said adding the DP to the automatic would add realistically 8hp and 5 to the wheels.
What's your take?

I had my second cat taken out, so I have no resonator or second cat. The sound is pretty amazing for not buying true exhaust, it's louder than I thought but it's not to loud. It has a really nice growl. It's loudest when shifting from 3rd to 4th @4RPM, I'm not sure why people where saying it sounds like crap, it sounds like a JCW but louder, also people who say it has a drone is bull, has no drone what so ever, the only time it's loud is when you get on it. Bare in mind I am talking about my r56.
I did notice driving on the street my monitoring my MPG gage it was a bit high, before it would say 30-40 now it says 50-60 anyone know if deleting the 2nd cat and resonator tampers with MPG whether it get more or less?

Rob,
Different worlds, since RENN and I are working on a different platform now (N18JCW/GP). NM was great and easy to work with (Jerry is seriously a great guy).
Note that I traded my Auto in for a manual, as the auto just had too many issues with tuning at higher levels (Stage 1 will be fine). Yes, I do recommend a downpipe - either the Akrapovic or the AR. If you prefer to go catless, you can use the VIP test pipe.
Please note that NM will not turn off the CEL from a downpipe. The AR is reported to not throw codes, but YMMV.

Theta, thanks for responding back. When I spoke to RennTech they said my MINI can still produce the same amount they advertise 230hp/240tq but only thing with the auto trans they will make sure the power comes in a little bit higher at rpm range. I wouldn't produce boost early as if I had a stage 1 NM tune or a manual MINI. I am strongly considering that since if I had NMs tune of 212hp/222tq as they advertise on their website at stage 1.
Any comments to this? I also spoke to Evolve about then tuning my car since they'll be opening a store in the U.S. soon.

You're more than welcome to join the Facebook R60 owner's club (open to all R60 owners) - that's mostly where we all share pics, etc. Other than that, I think I have a few in the JCW section.

I have two at the moment, one of which is the monster Forge unit. That one requires a lot of work to fit properly (I'll most likely be selling it soon to somebody that wants to track the car). It does offer the best cooling, but it's not for the faint of heart.
Moving on, you can use a stepped design like the Helix, or use the Tyrolsport, which is a thin, but large-faced design. This is catching on in popularity.
