Brakes for spirited driving and occasional track use?
 

Hi Guys,

I really don't know much about brakes. I have a decently quick MINI F56. It's normally used for spirited driving on the street. This summer I will be attending 1 track day. Is there a recommendation of brake setup for my kind of car? Pads/Fluid only? Rotors required?

Realistic prices only please. Don't want a JCW Upgrade recommendation or Wilwood 6 piston setup.

Any advice is appreciated.

The JCW upgrades are Brembos, you can never go wrong with them

SS brake lines / Motul RBF 600 fluid and fresh pads.

For a single track day...I am going to run my F54 on June 4th...I would keep things simple and just don't try and set any track records. With that said, I am doing the following in an effort to keep 'pucker' moments from showing up:

1) Motul RBF600 brake fluid. <-- most important in my book.
2) Upgraded or at a minimum, fresh pads.

Making sure you don't boil your fluid is very, very important to making sure you can slow down enough to make that turn coming up. From there, the longevity of your pads comes next. After that, everything is gravy. I use the RBF600 in my Mustang and it has worked excellent for track days on various tracks, hence the reason it will be in my Mini. Two bottles is enough for a full flush, so ~$36. I am trying out the Power Stop Z23 pads for the first time and will have to report back. From my email conversations with Power Stop, they are supposed to be a good step up from the OEM pads for temperature capabilities and for the price ($70 for full set), I am willing to try them out. So for just over $100 in prep, you should be ready to hit the track.

I am running the Autobahn Country Club full course (3.56 mile) road course for reference, which is my local track. I ran a former 2006 Subaru Legacy Wagon 2.5i there back in 2008 with only changing the brake fluid, ran the OEM pads and didn't have any issues. I wasn't trying to imitate Senna, but I wasn't out for a Sunday drive either.
