Curbed my black wheels! Dammit- fixing advice
so stupid- I park close to the curbs bc people like to park close to me for some reason and open their car doors into my car—— any way, it backfired and I left i a hurry and now have a small gash in my passenger side rim.... I’ve been researching online and can’t find a definite Answer—-
my car car is color A94 midnight metallic black- should i order that color for the rim? Or would any
black and clear coat work? Any advice would be much appreciated
thanks

I'm in the same spot. I have contacted the manufacturer of my after market summer rims and tire rack. No one seems to track touch up paint codes for wheels. It was suggested to me that some bodyshops have a machine that can sample the color and match it. I'm going to inquire. I will be following this thread and I will report back though it may take me some time to work through.

MINI black wheels color code 668 astro black (also used for black top)
MINI while wheels color code 899 Aspen White (also used for white top)
the paint is two part base/clear system ... yes the wheels are painted.
you can get from the dealer but I find their t/up paint to be poor quality.
i order from http://www.automotivetouchup.com/
and apply with artist brushes ....
[information from Sherwin Williams Automotive database ... they do list 'wheel colors' in many cases and other accessories too. Parts desks are not as familiar with paints as folks who paint cars.]

Yeah, I totally get that. One good thing, its really hard to tell the differences between gloss black. I think a pass with clearcoat will make them close enough that only you will know.
I had the gold STi rims. Man, that color was a PIA to try and color match!
Good luck buddy!

I’m just nervous about
the different shades of black out there ... want to match or get it as close as possible-
what part of "MINI black wheels color code 668 astro black" don't you understand?
this is what MINI sells as the wheel color if you find a part counter that is not an idiot who says "dunno"
don't trust me? Buy it, paint a sample and compare ..... don't forget that MINI wheels are painted in a base color/clear system. SO you won't see the full color until you topcoat with clear ....

been trusting the SW data base when painting cars for 15 years
no reason to doubt now .....
I get my info from the SW data base
are you saying 668 is NOT the correct code, or just debating the name?
I get my info from the SW data base ... you get yours from?
p.s. used the paint code with a good match ..... buying from AutoExpressions ....

Wheels are 'powder coated' and not your traditional spray type paint, so keep that in mind. That doesn't mean you can't patch paint them to cover up the damage, it just means that your home solution won't be as good as the OEM finish. There should be a local rim repair service or two in your area that you can contact. Their business is repairing damaged rims and finishes, so I would start there. 'Best' option would be to have the rim stripped, repaired and refinished, but it also may be more than you are willing to pay. Good luck.
