I installed one of these beaut items several months ago and one of the hoses blew off a few days ago. In the installation I was assisted by a mechanic with 37 years on the game and he maintains the hose clamps were tight.
Anyone else had this happen to them?

Incidentally, when it blew off, the car went into limp mode with a CEL and the code was P115D.

Even an experienced mechanic sometimes doesn't get it tight. You'll notice on that we've flanged the inlet and outlet ferrules to help prevent the hoses from blowing off under pressure, but you've got to be sure they're snug, just like on the stock intercooler.

I would imagine that a clean, dry fitted hose, rather than a lubricated fit, would be best;am I correct?

Yes I did notice that. I'm just assuming my install is an anomaly and the hose probably not installed correctly. Just one of those things really.

Alex, when my IC arrived the box was pretty trashed but all looked OK, THEN TODAY I removed the red covers on the IC and saw the hot side tube was a bit bent. Is this going to create a problem when I install it and put pressure to it?
Replacement IC arrived in perfect condition! Thanks Alex

The dented one was returned last week.

I'd like to further add that I noticed the other day that the auxiliary fan comes on whenever I turn the car off even if the temperature is cool. I had a thought yesterday about the temperature sensor behind the bumper and wondered if maybe I had not reinstalled it correctly and if so could it be causing my fan to come on everytime I stop the car. I'm thinking didn't happen before the install but I may be mistaken. My question then is, what is the purpose of this sensor? And will I have to pull the bumper off then to check and reinstall?
Gees I wish I was a better mechanic!

That is the ambient temperature sensor that reads on the tach. Don't know if it plays into anything else. But if you get a reading that seems accurate, that would likely not do it.

Thanks Eddie. The ambient temperature is reading correctly and it may be installed correctly but it was something I was thinking of. I may have to take the car to the stealership since it is still under warranty.

UPDATE:

I just got the IC in place and it works perfectly! Seems to be a bit more ZIP and a nice throaty sound, even with the OEM turbo muffler still in place!

Kudo's to Helix!

Thanks Alex.

Installed. Snug fit! Excellent. Love it.
Next biggest challenge, is figuring a prominent place for that Helix decal
(Fun Mod - great opp. to take things apart)

For you DIYers, don't be intimidated by SMOG's pic, it looks more intimidating than it is. If you take your time and be patient, The home installation can be done with conventional tools in about 2 hours.

Just a small handful of tools and it is easy! I broke no plastic fasteners and discovered that getting under the flare to remove that Torex fastener/screw was the hardest part. I used a flat/box end ratchet that I put a torex driver (#25?) into and held in place with my index finger and removed that Torex screw. That was the most difficult without peeling back the wheelwell flare further. Pretty easy!!
