Carista for Gen 3 ? Timeline if you know?
|
Hello Minnie,
It will work as a basic OBD2 reader for the Gen1 and Gen3 MINIs, but they don't have the coding done yet. Gen1 might never have the coding but they have their eyes on Gen3 coding. No time frame yet. But once we know we will post up. Should not be that long. You could still get it and then when it comes up update the app/subscription. Thanks |
So how do I know if the customization features will work on an R59? :)
Ultimately I'm still looking for the one touch window up, which is not clear this can do? But I'm curious about other customization features as well such as "Lower passenger-side mirror when in reverse gear (req. memory seats)" I'm also interested in BMW mini specific code reading and reset. How well does this system handles those? |
I just updated my R58 JCW and the key fob closes windows, which is really cool. From the factory we already have the open windows and top with the key fob. And also the open both doors locks on 1 press of the key fob also was added to my car.
I am going to try "Lower passenger-side mirror when in reverse gear (req. memory seats)". Will update as I get to mess with this more with specific models. The lists are on their site when you select your model. They update with features every so often. |
One touch Auto up works!!! :)
I could not get "Lower passenger-side mirror when in reverse gear (req. memory seats)". " I believe its only for certain euro cars. It will read and clear codes. |

Welcome. Now since they are onboard with ECS and MINI there will be more options down the road.
Its simple, quick, and easy. Not line code and finding codes to program yourself. Its easy to use on the iPhone. |

On BMW cars, you need memory seats as that gives you the connection of mirrors to canbus, which is why it says req memory seats. On the MINI side because we dont have memory till 3rd gen, it really should say needs 313 mirror pack. Im an avid coder through ncsexpert (not carly or carista) |
Cost . . . and trial?
Okay it all comes down to cost...
Carista gives you two cost models: 1. - One week for $9.99. I cannot help but think it is definitely too short and excessive. Give me $10 for a month. Okay I'll bite and can do that on occasion when I need it. But for 1 week??? that's a bit frustrating to make this useful. 2. - One year subscription for $39,99 WITH a 1 month free trial. I think that is more reasonably priced but: How easy it is to cancel the free trial if I just want to see what the app can do but don't want to feel pressed by time with the $9.99/week subscription where I only get one little week to play with it? Anyone knows what's up with the free month trial? Will they make it hard to cancel? Can I get the free trial and switch to that silly 1 week subscription once I know better how useful it will be for me? |
Gave it a trial, "one touch window down" is not a listed customizable option on the R59...
No "one-touch window" options are listed for that matter. It sounds like that functionality is really buried deep in BMW coding for some reason... only NCS like coding is able to handle. Sigh... I'll start another thread for the rest... Although once more I'm disappointed on that specific item, it may still be a nice little tool/app to have for other things... |
Its was on the R58. I will contact them and see why its not showing. It showed for Mine.
|
Did you restart the app and make sure its updated to the latest updage. Are you seeing it yet?

Also, I contacted them. He's very helpful. It would seem it is only in a beta version for now and he's not sure if it will work yet. I might help him out beta test :) We'll see. I'll keep you posted... |
Hoorah, the day has finally come! I was able to be part of Carista's beta tester, AND they have the one touch up window feature available in their beta version, WHICH I just tried and it works! I can't tell you how much nicer this is going to be. I'm so use to it on my other car that every time I'm annoyed by it in the Roadster. But not anymore!
So for those who are thinking about Carista for any MINI but obviously for the R59 also, give it a shot. It sounds like added functionality will be coming  |
Does this work with R53? can I change windows and light options with it, or just use it to read/clear check engine codes?
|
It will only read codes and check engine information. Clear codes. For the Gen 1 MINI.
Ment for gen 2 MINIs. For the coding: R56 MINI Cooper / S / JCW (2007+) R55 MINI Cooper Clubman / S / JCW (2008+) R57 MINI Cooper Convertible / S / JCW (2009+) R58 MINI Coupe' / S / JCW (2012+) R59 MINI Roadster / S / JCW (2012+) R60 MINI Countryman S/SX(All4)/JCW (2011+) R61 MINI Paceman /S/SX(All4)/JCW (2013+) |
Does the Carista read mini specific codes like anything related to half check engine light?
|
Hello, its more of a simple reader and reads some MINI specific codes(like a bonus option for coding options). If you want a code reader thats more indepth you will need this: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...d-q-and-a.html
The Carista is more for simple precoded changes on options and equipment on your MINI. |
