MINI Takes the States 2012
I'm in the Central Iowa MINI Club and I can tell you that we don't really plan on the having people just blowing right though Iowa. we have a lot of back roads, so our suggested route(s) will take you on some nice roads. We haven't really finalized what the evening event is in Des Moines since the we're waiting to hear back from City council in Des Moines (trying to close down part of downtown), otherwise its the state fairgrounds.
yes, you should have if you gave them an email address.
I just registered, going to go home and get the code to finish the process. Hopefully that is when I'll be able to get official hotel locations and such.
Living in Charlotte, Philly to Nashville is my plan this year and doing the Mini-cross in Philly and Nashville. I know it is not what they did during the last MTTS, but I'd love to take my JCW Coupe on the course to see what he could do !
Maybe in 2 years I 'll do the whole route. I've lived in Memphis, Nebraska, Colordao and California - it might be fun to swing by and see folks in a couple of years.

If you take radios, channel 7 sub channel 21 seems to be the common channel among MINI clubs. I've had good luck with Motorola, so-so with Cobra but your mileage may vary. The Motorolas I have take either rechargeable or standard batteries.
I created a MTTS group on Waze, for those that use it. My wife and I are taking her R57, and we'll be keeping Waze updated for speed traps, construction, etc.
If you haven't made your hotel registrations, get on it ASAP. We started last night, and it appears that New Jersey, Nashville and Louisville 'preferred' hotels are booked. Expect an average of $150 a night, with $10-$50(!!) for parking.
And it should go without saying, but do a pre-flight check on your MINI before the trip. Tires, oil, etc.

Did you try to book online or did you call the hotel(s) directly? I was trying to book the Hutton Hotel in Nashville online a few days after it was announced, but it said there were no rooms available. I thought that was fast, so I called and was told they had plenty of rooms and was able to get one at the MTTS rate. Had no problem booking the Aloft in Charlotte online.

Anyone doing the mtts trivia?
I am signed up for nj to phila - question...what are the goodie bags like? what were they in previous years? What i get for my $30? I am hoping for something at least moderately nice.

The bags themselves were made out of old MINI billboards. Those were pretty cool.
Your $30 also gets you onto the autox if you signed up, and any events that evening. There may be a continental-type breakfast served each morning. At least, there was during MTTS 2010.
I'll say, if you're thinking you'll get $30 or more worth of stuff in a goodie bag, you may be disappointed.
The best thing I got from MTTS 2010 was a coupon good for $1500 off a new MINI. That was NOT in the goodie bag, but rather, a 'thank you' for participating. And we did almost the entire route.
I've been doing the trivia contest. Got all answers correct the first week but missed one the second week.
As far as goodie bags, like carman said, the 2010 MTTS goodie bags were made of recycled MINI billborads. I now use mine when I pick up groceries. It came with your credential (hung on a MINI lanyard), MTTS window decal, a MINI keychain and several other MINI related items. Not in the bags but also handed out were MTTS posters and a copy of MINI Itnernational magazine. One fun activity during the event was collecting all the different official MTTS city buttons. Everyone was pinning them to their lanyards.
The goodie bags for 2008 MTTS were the Carfun Footprint bags (also meant for recycling) and had similiar items, but also came with a spiral bound "passport" that you had stamped by the various vendors. Neat liitle book as a keepsake. Also came with a MINI frisbee.
There were no goodie bags for the 2006 MTTS. A few things were sent to you by mail...the "passport", decal, etc. They also handed out a few things during the event too. A MINI road atlas was one as well as a MTTS cd.
So, although the bag and contents may not be worth $30, you also get the MINIcross, the evening events, and a whole lot of fun!

I got a goodie bag at the start (Monterey, CA) of the 2006 MTTS.
For 2006 MTTS we received many free items at Laguna Seca/Monterey including lunches at the track, parade lap, kick-off breakfast/party, and goodie bag. FWIR, the goodie bag included an Atlas, magazine, soap, and stickers. I am sure I missed other items in the bag.

Anyone have any ideas on how we are getting to the fireworks in DC from Maryland? Last time I went to the fireworks in DC, over 1 million people attended. It was a sh!tshow. Do you think they will bus us in or have roads blocked off so we can drive the cars in? That would be some serious visibility for the brand...
Very Excited!
This will be my third MTTS; my new MINI is on a boat scheduled to land on the 2nd. Just in time to pack up and head East from Los Angeles to Woodcliff Lake via the scenic route. I will have a blog site set up and will be uploading video and photos along the way; and I have a couple of surprise detours planned.
Looking forward to breaking in my new baby!
Cheers!
