Need car rental advice for trip to England
 

Will be spending 10 days in England in mid-June, including a factory tour. Need advice on car rental. Went to one site - www.europcar.com - and although their prices for the car are reasonable, the 'additional fees' are ridiculous. Example: compact car rental for 10 days is $250, but insurance is $500! And to rent a GPS device is $200! Help!

Most credit cards will cover international car rental insurance if you charge the car rental on your card. All of ours offer this. Call and ask them to send you a copy of their policy that shows this (and take it with you). The additional insurance that is sold is a rip off!

We've never had an issue when we travel to Scotland or England doing this using our Chase Freedom card.

Go to kayak.com and check prices. Use car insurance on your credit card, make sure you deny the collision damage through the rental company when you book. Also make sure your credit card has no fee for foreign transactions.

As for GPS- buy the app on your phone called TomTom Europe. Maps are downloaded on the phone and you don't need internet connection. It uses your smartphone's GPS
