Advise on 16" tire replacement for R56

I used to track but with 2 babies at home it is not going to happen anytime soon. However, when I drive the MCS to work or pleasure, I do drive it hard. I have selected a 16x7 wheel of choice with ET38.

Now, what tire should I get. I am thinking of 215/50-16 Avon Tech M500 or Dunlop Direzza. M500 is 81/tire vs. Direzza $61 + $50 rebate for set of 4 tires. Is the size ok or should I stay with 205 series?

Any suggestion for tires and sizes welcome.

Thanks,

I've been running Avon Tech M500 215/50-16 from Tire Rack for the last six months or so, no problems. Quiet, good rain performance. I have them on 16X7 Koenigs at about 16 lbs each. It's a good tire.

Thanks,
I think you are fine with that tire and rim size.

Most owners have stock 16x6.5" rims and choose 205/50-16 for a slightly smaller than stock sized outer tire diameter and light weight or lower cost and some choose 205/55-16 which weighs about the same as the 215/50 and is slightly taller than stock outer tire diameter which could increase risk of rubbing.

If you keep your stock suspension then your 16x7 rims fit the 215/50-16 just fine as is. Weight is 23 pounds so not too light but it's OK. 215mm width is fine for various 16" rims.

M500 is a good all around tire. Email or talk to Alex@tirerack.com for more info.

For a longer lasting all season tire consider the Kumho Ecsta ASX.
