Need info/opinions on taking apart the factory two-piece web spoke wheels...

We were planning on disassebling the center spokes of my Web Spoke wheels and having them powder coated black. Our first issue was the 12-point socket required to remove the screws on the front of the rim. When I called up my local Mini dealer they stated the tool is not available and the rims are not intended to be disassembled :( They said doing so would void the warranty because the integrity of the wheel would be compromised. Does this make sense? I just can't believe this can't be done!

This is pure speculation, but there may be special equipment required for assembling them -- to insure concentricity. There also may be a tightening sequence and torque setting required to avoid distortion. I can see where they wouldn't want a customer messing with them.

Here's a previous thread on the same subject: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=76952

Many of these assembly bolts should be replaced once torqued - they get streched - and don't torque down as they did before after they been streched.

Thank you! I searched, but obviously not well enough...

It appears the jury is still out on this...

Get the socket and a clicker torque wrench from Sears. Should take the opportunity to get a inch/pounds one. Assemble in cross pattern to be even. Torque to 10 lbs, then 20. Don't hesitate to use a very, very small dab of blue locktite.
