I'm running 205-40-17 Kumho's on 17 x 7.5 Kosei k1's set @ 36 psi cold. The car is box stock otherwise. DSC was off. The track configuration we ran @ Buttonwillow was clock wise and about 3 miles in length. After 4 hard laps on a (finally) dry track we checked temps and pressures. Here are the results:
LF: Pressure: 50psi Temps: inside: 165 center:175, ouside: 175 RF: Pressure: 50 psi Temps: Inside 171, center: 171, outside: 167 LR: Pressure: 46 psi TEmps: inside: 138, center 142, outside: 137 RR: Pressure: 45 psi Temps: inside: 118, center: 118, outside: 120 There is a very long 4th gear right hand sweeper that probably accounts for the left to right differences. Camber has never been checked but looks to be a lot closer to ok than I would have suspected. :eek: |
What did you pay for the tires BTW???

I bought the Kumhos from the Tire Rack along with the wheels. I based the selection on price ($94), Tire Rack test results, and user reviews as reported on the Tire Rack site. I'm probably not the best judge since I have no previous experience with a front driver or max performance street tires. My previous car was a 1976 Pontiac Winston West stock car that we ran in vintage races for years. However, I am VERY impressed with both the wet and dry grip! Also, the tires have no surprises waiting when you approach the limits. This is probably a function of the MCS more than the tires but I found that a slight amount of throttle lift when the front began to push freed up the rear and in very little time I was using that to steer the car right to the exit berm in corners where I couldn't get front grip. What a gas!!!! First mod will be a limited slip differential. :lol:

I have heard a bigger rear sway bar will accomplish what
you are looking for from a limited slip. Thanks for the info. My swaybar goes in this week and next track day is 4/19. I may give those Kumhos a workout... Talk to RandyBMC as there are no warranty issues with the sway bar. Recently, at Daytona, a Mini was DNF due to a blown LSD...don't know which one though. :cool: |
