225/50 on 16?

Was wondering if anyone is running this size tire?
Is it too wide for the mini?
Was going to put on stock xlites.

I'm not sure those will fit on the 6.5 in x-lites. I am sure that alex knows!

WAYY too wide to put on stock x-lites as the x-lites are 6.5 inches across only...

and the tire is too large to put inside the wheelwell, likely you will get ALOT of rubbing

cannot comment on the fit to xlite wheels, however the fit to the rear fender is going to be a problem. am running 215/50 on 16x7 (42 offset) volk wheels, and getting some rubbing in the rear (albeit, with h-sport springs).

215-45-16 fit nicely on xlite 6.5" rim. The diameter slightly less than stock. No rubbing.

Most 225/50/16 will fit on the 6.5's with no issue, but being 225's @ 25 inches makes it next to impossible to fit with out mods on the car.

Alex, if staying w/ the xlites what is the biggest size I can go with, or should I just go w/ 205/50s for best handling.
Figure no dropping on lowered springs.

225/45/r16

There are a couple of people running this size, and it's pretty close to stock diameter! There aren't a LOT of tires in this size, but there are some good ones (BFGoodrich KDW's are my fav).

Good Luck!

Will the 225 help in handling over the 205 by much?
It seems it would be a tough fit for 45profile to get on a 6.5" width rim.

I have seen a couple of people running this size tire, but I am not sure how wide they're rims are... they *could* be running 16X7's...

From what I have been told (by several sources), you get a LOT more grip when you step up to a 225 from a 205.

I believed it enough to order up some 225/50/R15 BFGoodrich G-force sports for my MCS! I am mounting these on 15X7 TD PR 1.2's...

In a couple of weeks it will be warm enough to put them on, and I'll be able to tell you for sure how much more grip they have! :-)

My summer tires are 225/45/16, on 16x7.5 SSR comps. I had some minor rubbing issues, but I'm lowered with PSS9s. I think I remember someone reporting that 225/45/16 didn't rub with the stock suspension. Obviously, 225/50/16 will be a little taller... In any case, I wouldn't suggest putting 225s on a 6.5" wheel. I've been told that when you put a wide tire on a narrow wheel, it causes the tire sidewall to roll over more, which makes turn-in more sloppy and wears out the tire sidewall stiffness quicker. For street driving, there really isn't much benefit to doing 225s. I'll probably purchase 215/45/16s for my next set.

Glad to hear you finally taking the step. I can't wait to hear the results. What offset are those PR 1.2's?

How do you like your Toyo T1S?
I'm thinking 205s may be the way to go, a bit wider than i'm running now and non-rf's will make a huge difference.

I'm pretty sure the PR 1.2's have the same offset as the PR 1's...

They should be E.T. 45... I'll know when they get here!

What about 215/50/16? This size very closely approximates the OEM diameter of the 195/55/16 on x-lites...

I thought about it, but limited brands in that size.

They're a pretty good high-performance compromise... they're lightweight, have good cornering grip, and not too harsh of a ride. The braking performance is ok. Trying to compare these to Bridgestone S03s I had on my Audi A6, I'd say the T1S sidewall is not quite as stiff which makes the ride more comfy but give up a little in grip, particularly in braking. The S03s are a bit heavier, though.

Toyo has recently released a new tire called the T1R (I think?) which you'd probably want to consider instead of the T1S, which is at least a couple of years old.

You'll notice a huge difference coming from the runflats! IMO, 205/50/16 would be a good balance between improved performance and practicality (no rubbing, and enough sidewall height for a reasonably comfortable ride).

I have a set of 215/50-16 Avon Tech M500 that I put on my lowered car for a few days--they rub just a little on the rear liner, so I am going to 205. If you are interested in them, I'll sell them at a good price.

As for the tires, themselves--very quiet for an ultra performance tire--huge increase in comfort and performance over the stock. But, don't take my word for it--check the reviews at tire rack: http://www.tirerack.com/survey/SurveyComments.jsp

Also, as another post mentioned--this size is exactly the same as the stock 195/55-16's.

225/45 R16

Is anyone actually running a 225/45 R16 on the 16x6.5" X-Lites? I want to order a set of Hankooks in this size to run on my X-Lites but am hesitant since I have not been able to confirm that they fit. Anyone know for certain?

Nice longhood Porsche What is the offset on the Volks on which the Avons are mounted?

A local auto crosser used to run Victoracer 225/50/16's on x-lites. He got a slight bit of rubbing when the car was loaded with people. I have run 225/50/16 Avon Tech A's on 16x6.5 SSR's. I get a little bit of rubbing on the plastic liners when I am pitching it through the corners. The down side of these 50 series tires is they are way tall and will hurt acceleration slightly.
