I received an e-newsletter today from tire rack regarding new model wheels and tires they are carrying or will carry this spring. Noticed that they now have the forged gramlights - however, I couldn't get any info from the material they sent me about the weight and price. Should be significantly lighter than the cast version, which is about 14 lbs. Nice, classic, 5 spoke design too.

Well, looks like Motegi Tracklites , anthracite with another set of Goodyear F1 GS D3 in the 415 X 40 YR 17's Hopefully here by the 25 th of the month
thanks for the ideas
Any comments?

kenchan Mar 16, 2006 07:47 PM

yeh, there was one guy in a silver MCS that had comps in 18's...
not sure if it's the same car above or not.

Tire rack was the only source for this wheel/color combination. Everyone else that advertised them was just a tire rack affiliate. At this point, your only shot is to watch ebay...

I'm a little pissed about this whole situation. Tire Rack told me when I ordered my silver SSR's that production would continue on these wheels. Now, they're saying that it will probably continue, but only in solid colors. If they'd told me that to start with, I never would have bought them. At the very least, I would have purchased a spare - something I was told wasn't necessary.

I can appreciate that the whole SSR collapse/buyout has put them in an awkward situation, but the way they quietly sold out of all these wheels feels like a coverup. If it were me, I would have labelled all the wheels discontinued as I sold them, then reintroduced them later if production resumed. I guess their strategy worked in that they've cleared out most of their inventory. I'll defininitely be a lot less likely to buy from them in the future...

kenchan Mar 16, 2006 07:55 PM

^ it might be tougher than you think. metal prices going up, new owners, perhaps even
needing to maintain the molds, etc. the store sales people are going by what they are
being told. it's business, things can change at any time. im happy that they even
brought back the GT3's. i bought a pair of rear's (19x10's) last month. :)

like the GTO. already dropped. things can change at any time.

I'm patiently hoping and waiting for Tire Rack's stock of SSR wheels to become replenished. A few months age TR carried 15x6, 15x7, and 15x7.5 SSR Comps for MINIs, but they apparently all sold out, no more 15" sizes shown, and the only 16's are 16x6.5 Hopefully this changes by summer whan I'm ready to buy another set of wheels.

Don't hold your breath....I got four 15x7s late last year. I called last week to order a fifth and was told the 15s are discontinued and will not be coming back.

I'm p.o.'d too.

That sucks. I would think that they'd offer at least one of the widths in 15". The 4x100 15" SSR's are popular with people who own Miatas, Civics, Minis, and a lot of other cars. Looks like the new owners of the company are going for the low-pro crowd.

Hopefully TR still has the 16x6.5 SSR's in a few months since those are ideal for stock class autocrossing and I'll be getting a set (if they still have them)

the primary reason why SSR went under in the first place was because
they could not keep up with the demographics that keep wanting
low-blow wheels.

so Tanabe, imho, is just trying to keep the company afloat while they
generate new wheels that are more suited for the general public...
or i should say the 'generic' public.

I e-mailed Alex regarding the SSR Comps (17x7.5 ET37) as it says they'll be in on March 28th on their web site. He said they were indeed on their way.

FWIW, I just rec'd my anthracite 16x7 comps today (ordered Weds). And last I looked, 16x7.5 was in stock as well. Don't know about other sizes since these two were all I was interested in.

You're right, I guess all I was paying attention to was the 16x6.5's since that is all I'll be able to use for autocrossing. TR does show the 16x6.5 and 16x7 SSR Comps in Anthracite and the 16x7.5's in silver in stock. Those three sizes are all TR shows available in the SSR Comp for the MINI on their website, no 15's or 17's. Oh well, I guess I'll have to look elsewhere for 15" wheels under 10 lbs.

kenchan Mar 18, 2006 06:09 AM

the Comps in 16x7.5's are killer wheels. since i only street, these are my
favorites. :)

DreadPirateTim Apr 18, 2006 01:53 PM

The SSR website shows 15" Competitions... Not sure about delivery from TR, however. Also, no info about ET (offset). At any rate, here's the link:

those up there are 17's...i have had people ask me many times if my rims were 18s too....

I think it is because..
1. must be like 35 or 40 sidewall
2. that mini is low...

ps...that thing is HOT!!!

I like my tracklites, i have them in flat black, only thing is that they make my brakes look tiny. but they seem to be very well constructed wheels and a pretty good deal.
