Best tire for week long track event, skid pads, OLOA ?
ALex and tire-track buffs,
My car, myself and a famous MINI tuner will be embarking on the Onelap of America this year
We need to know which tire will be "the tire" to drive on for this week long, 3,500 mile event which includes 8 tracks, we will runa 215-40-17 size
I saw the Tire-Rack spread sheet here:
http://www.tirerack.com/a.jsp?a=EZ3&url=/tires/surveyresults/surveydisplay.jsp&type=MP
But also noticed that the winner of the wet-skid pad and dry skid-pad events had different tires too

Mark the tires for wear with a chaulk or white shoe polish. Better yet, use a tire pyrometer probe to maintain even temperatures across the tire tread from inside to outside. If too hot in the middle tread then your psi is too high. Adjust by 2 psi.
Also you can rotate tires even if they are directional (right tires rotate only front to rear) to help them last a little longer.
In the MINI the rear tires don't heat up as much (about 20 to 30 degree less on the track) while the front tires wear quickly depending on the course and your driving tendencies.
Also make sure that your brake pads are good and maybe upgrade your brake fluid to ATE super blue or similar (higher boiling point than stock fluid).
