Choice of 16" Performance Tire Selection is Getting Slimmer

I really like the BFG Sport Comps and I'm on my second set.

The last set was a hassle to find though because they were on national backorder, was lucky to have found some at all.

Chalked the backorder up to Covid-related supplychain disruption.

That was several months ago and since then have been checking for availability and they never really ever showed up anywhere.

When I noticed that the Tire Rack had removed the 16" size altogether from their site, then I knew something was up.

Wrote directly to BFG and asked if that particular size was discontinued:

No big surprise there really since the design is so old and has been around forever,
adding to that, likely a low volume of sales in the smaller sizes nowadays too.

Now just thinking about what I'll get next time.

Was leaning toward going down to a 45 so I could get this Conti:

Firehawk Indy 500 seems to get universal praise though, so might try a set of those.

Any input or opinion welcome, would love to hear your experience.

Also would be good to hear any pointers toward alternate brands that I may be unaware of.

Thanks.

This past year I replaced my old Sport Comps with Firehawk Indy 500s and have found them to be a very good choice. I did like the Comps but they were noisier than the Firehawks. The new tires have a quicker turn in response and the ride is a bit better. They are very good in the rain, although I haven't driven them much on interstates where some people have reported them to be squirrely. You could go to 215/55/60 and get Kumho Ecsta or Yokahama Advan tires, though I still would choose the Indys over them. Kinda sad that we can't get them same selection of tires available in 17".
