17" or 18" Wheels for 2014 r59 Roadster S

Hello All,

New to the forum. I have a 2014 r59 Roadster S and was looking at putting on new wheels and tires. Any opinions on which is better, 17" or 18"? I have had the car since new and am starting the upgrade process. So far the only modification is the Burger Tuning N18 JB Plus and it has made a world of difference.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Bigger wheels, potentially better handling with rougher ride. Our F55 with 16s much softer than my F56 with 17s.

I don't mind the hard ride. It's my daily driver, but my commute is 10 minutes each way and it is 90% highway. Roads around my part are smooth for the most part. The car originally had run flats which I hated. the ride was terrible. After wheels and tires I am going to be looking for other mods. The car is so much fun to drive. I just want it to be even more fun.

If you thought the ride with the run flats was bad, stay away from the 18's. Get a light weight set of 17's and a set of 215/45-17 tires. Ride will be decent, and handling response won't suffer too bad.

Robert,
Have had both 17's and 18's on our Mini. Honestly, didn't notice much of a loss in ride quality going with the bigger rims. I would be more concerned with the lower profile tires allowing easier rim damage with high impacts. We're in the south so bad roads are not much of an issue here. If you search for 18's you will quickly discover that not much of a selection exists in the low to medium price range. We wound up with JCW rims but paid the price. An option to help you with rim protection and ride quality might be to go with 215/40 x 18. Good luck!
