Brake longevity

I just serviced the front brakes on my 2008 Clubman. I went with Raybestos rotors, wear sensor and ceramic pads. When I reset the service light, the interval reset to 22,000 miles. Is this conservative or realistic?

Really depends on many factors- how you use the brakes, how aggressively you drive, late braking from speed, living on a steep hill, etc.

You can easily go more miles if you do longer commutes with highway driving and limited stop and go traffic. In urban driving you may use the brakes more.

A survey of how many pay any attention to the on board service interval indicator would be interesting. I ignore it completely and have service done on a predetermined interval for all fluids and wear items when the odometer lands on either 4 zeroes or a 5 followed by 3 zeroes, for example, plugs and belt every 40K. Try it, it might relieve some anxiety. The one big item that really doesn't apply to are the brake pads but it's a benchmark that could help identify personal brake pad usage.
