I'm just gonna ask

I searched and searched and searched but couldn't find a definative answer...

I'm looking to run 17X7 with et40, the question is will 225/45/17 fit?

To note, we are not lowered and do not plan on lowering... i saw posts that said yea it will fit and others that said it would rub like no tomorrow...

please help

No Problem

I have stock MC with that exact combo and I have had no rubbing problems. Hope that helps...

^^^honestly and no offense; I don't buy it. If you look on the inside of the wheel arches, you will see at least a tiny bit of rubbing marks and/or melted spots of plastic where the tire hits the "spats" on big bumps.

Yes every MINI is a bit different, however it's math, not magic. With slightly corrected camber, I've seen stock 205/45-17's on s-lites with no spacers (ET50 fyi) rub the rear spat. I've also seen on a different MINI, a 215/40-17 kumho mx (very square and wide for its size) on a 7" et37 setup with very minimal melting. So going from that - a tire that's wider and taller will hit the spat sooner, and more of it. 3mm offset change will negate the effect slightly, but it'll still rub. Not that rubbing is a bad thing - but a 225/45-17 will be a quite snug fit. I'd be more apt to run a 235/40-17, which is much wider, but also shorter. You'll no doubt have to hog out the wheel arch, but whew that would be a wide tire for the MINI!

I think it'll rub too...especially if you bought GS-D3, S03, or Azenis.

Everytime this question gets asked alex@tirerack always says to expect the tires to rub the wheel wells. Sometimes it rubs so much that you'll need a dremel tool to cut away the inside portions of the wheel arches so that you can use the big wheels. This is because you are trying to fit a tire which is 20mm wider than stock into the snug wheel well and there isn't much negative camber to help out.

I have a lowered MCS with 215/45-17 and I rub a little in the rear wheel wells. I have checked a similarly lowered MCS with 215/40-17 and he rubs a little. Neither is enough to pull out the dremel.

So in your case if you don't lower your car you will likely rub but maybe not all the time if you happen to be lucky and not weigh too much. Put in a few people and go over some bumps and you WILL rub.

225/45-17 will fit the rims just fine. If you have lowered your MINI then have the dremel ready in hand.

It's your call, the 215/45-17 is a better choice than the 225/45-17 in my opinion. 10mm will save you the bother of rubbing and subsequent cutting.
It's functional and looks good. Tire selection is fairly decent as well.

I'll have to look

Hey Ryephile, I'll have to get under there and look but I swear I have never heard my tires rub (would I?). I do have a very basic MC without a sunroof so maybe the lack of weight helps me? I will go look tomorrow, I'm curious.

Kev....if you are really looking to get 17 x 17 ...just make sure the off set is right...that's the big deal for inner rubbing...as for turning the car...I am not sure that would work...due to the width of the new wheel...wide body kit?...heh he

I run Kuhmo MX'es 225-45-17s on enkei RPF-1s "43mm offset the only time they rubbed was in the rear with 4 adults in the car and on a bad dip in the road  Not that often I have 4 adults in the car! I drive the car hard and like the mx'es much better than the run-flats and the look great under the car.
