Street brake pads
Won't need new brakes until at least next spring, but wondering what to get for a 2009 JCW Clubman.
For my 2003 R50 I found the stock brakes ok but very dusty.Tried Hawk HPS next but don't like their
lack of bite and sluggish response.Then used Cool Carbon which performed great with a bit
more dust than HPS but still less than OEM.They also were hard on the rotors and got noisy
(scraping at low speed rather than squeeking) with age,and they don't make a pad for the
Gen 2 JCW brakes.Have heard good things and bad things about EBC Redstuff.
Wondering about Porterfield R4-S or maybe Carbotech 1521 (Bobcat).I of course want the magic
unobtainable mix of lower dust, acceptable noise, good cold bite and excellent performance,
but don't need track-worthiness and don't autocross either. Rotor wear isn't a big issue.
This is a spirited daily driver MINI.Speaking of rotors, will probably keep it simple and get plain
Zimmerman or Brembo rotors unlesssomeone chimes in with something better. Not interested in
drilled or dimpled, and although I haveused slotted rotors in the past, probably not necessary.
(The EBC slotted USR ones look nice butthe rear discs are crazy expensive for some unknown reason).

We install the EBC reds on almost every brake job we do in our shop and they have been great and customers have loved them so I would not hesitate to recommend them

a vote for EBC reds here ... been using for a long time

I dunno if MINI eventually changed the pad compound but the wheels on our '15 R15-S don't seem to get anywhere near as dirty with brake dust as did the 2002 and the 2007 on factory pads
either they changed the pad material or black wheels are the answer!!! cuz the black wheels we have just never look as bad as the silvers on the other cars which were usually a mess by the third day after a wash. Might just be my imagination but when I wash the car there just does not seem to be NEARLY as much brake dust . . .

The EBC Reds are looking good.
In fact, I have a set that I bought for my 2003 R50 last year, but the MINI got totaled before I got around to putting them on, so I never got to try them.
Also have front and rear Stoptech cryo slotted rotors also new in box that I can't use along with sensors, caliper pins, rubber bushings, etc. for R50 or R53 with standard brakes.
Anyone in the South Central PA area (near York PA) interested in buying them at well below cost for local pickup?
Also have 4 R81 7-hole wheels in good shape with Michelin x-ice xi3 snow tires with 6.5-7/32 tread left and a bunch of other stuff as well.
The rotors and wheels/tires would be pretty heavy to ship.

my wife’s 2001 VW Cabrio but not so great on my
2003 R50.
Speaking of the G-Loc GS-1 pads, do the Gen 2
JCW ones have sensor slots and the front pad
weights? Not sure what the hell those do anyway.
Now wondering if I should pair the GS-1 with
Centric/Stoptech 125 series plain cryo rotors.
