Recommendations for Brake Pads?

I’ve got a 2014 F56 Justa that needs to have the brakes done. My dealer wants $1400, which is crazy *** insane, even for BMW. My husband has done brakes before and will do mine, but he wanted me to find out what pads are people recommending and if there is anything he “should know” before doing them.

Thanks in advance,
Heif

You talking fronts and backs? I don't know about the Gen3's but the Gen1 rear piston must be turned to retract back in. Would think some will chime in here.

Some of the vendors here might have the pads you need as well.

We've been using the EBC reds and very happy with them.

Gen 3 also has the annoying rear piston design. I assume there is a reason for it but darned if I know what it is. If you don't have the special tool you can make do with a set of long nose pliers to apply push and twist.

Another vote for EBC RedStuff. Great street pads! For rotors get the house brand from WayMotorWorks.com. As good as OEM, less expensive, and unlike OEM has an anti-corrosion coating that helps keep it looking nice.

I have no connection with WMW, just a satisfied customer for years. Way is my go-to for parts, supplies and advice.

Does anyone know what part number the piston pusher tool is or have a link where I can get one?

Thanks again!

I think this the part you are looking for, Neiko 20733A Disc Brake Caliper Wind Back Tool Kit.

Amazon has it but I think you can buy either this or something similar locally. You should also check with some local autopart stores as they may rent them.

Pittsburgh Performance Parts would be happy to get the brake pads for you. We have both EBC and Hawk brake pads. We are also giving a 10% discount on first orders until March 31st.

p.s. the need to rotate is a part of the e-brake system. The various adapter plates in the kits reflects the commonality of this system ... the adapters allowing the tool to work on many makes and sizes of calipers ...

I assume its related to the parking brake since it is a mechanical actuation.

______

Since you're also in salt country make sure he checks that the caliper slides easily on the guide pins. Not sure if the 3rd gen is the same as the 1st but on the 1st gen corrosion (hard white buildup) accumulates under the rubber slide pin boots on the caliper.

Here's a link to what we found on my son's R50.

Pads

Those of us autocrossing hard where the brakes gets smoking hot have found the stock pads are fine. The EBC and so on should be ok too, but probably not necessary. There was zero aftermarket pad availability last year for the 3 Gen f56, so maybe that has changed and you have a choice now.
