Real stupid question possibly
 

Hi

my car is due soon for it's 15000km service.. .and i was wondering if my bridgestone re750s can be rotated... the fronts are taking a beating, but the back is almost new... i'd love to extend the life of these so im wondering

a friend of mine who also drives a mini, on es100s told me never to rotate tires cuze it can cause terrible vibrations.. is this true? i know the tires once rotated must be balanced as well to make sure they don't vibrate...

kyriian - you can rotate the tires and wheels no problem. IF (rarely
happens) you get vibration after the rotation, that means you need to
get the tires&wheels re-balanced...which is no big deal. :smile:

Your dealer can re-balance, or your local tire store.

I usually rotate my tires&wheels when I see more wear on the fronts.

You may get more road noise if you rotate them...but it's healthier
to rotate them on occassion.

I rotated my tires about 15,000 Miles, wished I had rotated them sooner, yes the fronts were taking a beating and the backs had less for ware. If you can rotate your tires yourself, you can save a little. You might need to have them rebalanced, maybe not. Just wished I had rotated mine at 5,000 miles instead of 15,000. :grin:

Beware - there was a MINI a while back that lost it and smashed badly; general opinion of the driver and others was the recent front-to-back tire rotation was a contributing factor ... some excessive ?under?steer due to having badly worn rear tires and grippy front ones. Seemed the conclusion was rotate regularly (to avoid excessive difference in front/rear wear), or not at all - don't rotate because the fronts are heavily worn.

my tires aren't BADLY worn yet, they have about 7000km on them (about 4400miles) so i dont think rotating them would be a bad idea now...

I agree - I rotated mine at about 6000 miles and there were no issues.

Ever notice that BMW is the ONLY manufacturer that doesn't recommend rotating your tires? German ego getting in the way is the problem.

Tire Rack recommends rotating your tires as often as you can, to extend service life of the tire. Being that they're the tire experts, and telling you ways to NOT spend money with them enstills a level of trust BMW-ego never considers.

---->kyriian: your friend with the es100's is in err. The ES100's are directional, so you can only rotate front to back and not side to side to maintain directionality.
