Seeking feedback - 16's vs 17's on MCS
 

Seeking opinions regarding any difference in the ride - more or less harsh - between the 17's and 16's. Factory package tires and wheels...on an MCSC...of course it'll be MCS people who have experience as the Cab's aren't much here yet...but...it'd help me to know what people think.

Guess it depends on what you like and the conditions in which you'll be driving.

The 17''s are harsh, but so are the 16's, just not as bad. We're talking with run-flats. The 17's, wheels and tires have a VERY high likelihood of being damaged by minor potholes, that chance won't be nearly as high with 16 inch.

If you're likely to switch to non-runflats and like the low profile look, then go with the 17". If you're into comfort, get the 16".

I would not get the 17" wheels if I were going to stick with the run-flats as a tire option, period.

How are your roads? Many potholes and hardly smooth? If so then 16" stock wheels would be smarter. The 17" with runflats are very heavy, cost more, ride harshly especially on rough roads and the 45 series low profile runflat tires transmit potential damage from potholes to the rims.

The stock 16" wheels though still runflats are 195/55-16 tires and still perform well enough, are lighter weight and come standard. If you are in Denver and it snows you'll need snow tires anyway and you could mount them on the stock 16" rims if you like. Then you would be free to get non runflat tires in any size rim you'd like from 15" up to 18".

Actually, the DSST SP9000's are not much heavier than non-runflat
performance tires in the same size.

Considering the weight of the factory wheels, the slight difference goes
undetected.

If you have not driven a modded car before, the MCS sus might feel
too stiff regardless of 16's or 17's. 16's will feel softer than the17's
but its really in the suspension that changes ride comfort.

I never felt that the 17's with run-flats were all that bad considering
comfort. My GS-D3's in 205/50/16 size is only 'slightly' softer than the
17's with DSST SP9000's.
