225/45/17 is perfectly safe and functional on a 7" rim. I wouldn't go any wider but honestly there is no need to on these cars. Even if you're full bolt ons with a tune you still wouldn't need anything more than an R compound 225/45/17 to get the power down. At that point I'd be investing in an LSD rather than going to wider tires.

All correct, but if your local climate stinks, with wet and muddy roads, budget for some front camber unless you like washing your car doors, for anything much wider than a 205, et 45 or less.

them arches are tall, but not very deep

^ would love some camber up front but no affordable solution at this point. And central TX does have a pretty nice climate but if you get a good semi-permanent coating on your paint then washing them doors is a breeze

I'm running 215/45X17 and don't have any problem with throwing carp on the doors. I do have the OEM mud flaps installed and they help a lot.

Yeah, I put on only the front mud flaps and my doors hardly ever get any dirt on them anymore. What does get on there sprays off super easy with some water because of the CQuartz.

Anyone tried 18x8 et45 with 225 40 18 pps?not going to lower the car.will it rub?

I'm curious as well, I imagine the 225 on a 8" wide rim would rub against something as its a tight fit with an 8" rim to begin with. I'm wondering if anyone has fitted the TSW Valencia 18x8 45et wheels on their F56. The center bore is 76.1. I'm guessing a 76.1 to 66.6 hub centric ring would work despite the f56 having a 66.5 bore?

225's on an 8" rim width is "ideal" according to fitment guides! The big question always is the offset and clearance from the struts when you go wider wheel widths. 18"x8" ET45 sounds about right, but still need clearance on the JCW Brembos (if you have a JCW). None of it is easy....lots of trial & error it seems. Proper wheel use and fitment is still in the developing stages for most.

Ah gotcha, I'll have to be patient. I'm really hoping a nice LM Rep comes out. Mini seems to have really limited the wheel options with those narrow wheel wells. Maybe those future fender flares will help give us more options. I guess then a 40/38et may become the safe offset for 8" wheels.

So this is r99's 8" et45 with 205 tire.seem like 215 will fit no problem....but I really doubt 225 will rub the strut for et45.what do u think?

looks like there is more than 10mm space left between tire & strut.
20mm is the difference between 205 & 225. 10mm on the outside & 10mm on the inside should be fine.

It'll be real close. I'm not sure how long those little rubber probe thingies are (I'm pretty sure that's the technical term for them), but one of those is making contact with the strut already.

You also need to check clearance with the wheel turned (not just straight).

Personally, I believe the 7.5" rim width is probably the best option...would probably pull that tire slightly farther away from the strut even with the same tire size. It's truly a "trial & error" process.

So just about to order tires for my new rims. 18" RSE 12's.
Purely on looks I was thinking of running oversized tires. I've posted about this before but thinking 215 45 18's. I've always thought the tires look too small on our cars. They looked good on the R56 but now I'm not sure.
Has anyone else done this. I know it will mean that the speedometer and odometer will under read by a couple of miles/hour etc.

I wouldn't go with a 45 aspect ratio but I'm no expert. The RSE 12s are great though....did you have NM make them for your JCW or are they the std wheels?

And the tire will flex a bit on the inside when you turn in the opposite direction might need a 3mm spacer or larger. You dont want to put it on then find out down the road you damaged and rubs the tire. Test fit with the new tire, measure and then get a spacer.

Agreed- 45 is way to tall. 225-35-18 is optimal on 18x8 et45 wheel.
Shortrer stiffer side wall is a good thing.
