Will 16" OEM steel wheels fit on my Cooper S?

Quick question. I'd like to pick up a set of 16" OEM steel wheels (part number: 36116764346) for use on winter tires. My car is a 2012 Cooper S...will these fit?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Yes, the OEM steel 16x5.5 wheels will fit over the 'S'-model R56 brakes.
The steel wheels WILL NOT fit the OEM JCW Brembos.

Just had these fitted to the car and there's a strange whirring sound coming from the wheels. So I'm guessing that they're too close to the calipers and creating wind noise. I'm not convinced there is any actual friction. But I need to find out!

I'll be bringing the car back to the dealer to find out what the story is. I was really hoping not to have to buy different alloy wheels for the car. Perhaps I'll end up just picking up a set of 17" winter tires...

Why go steel when you can get used alloys for so cheap?

JAB, two fold. One, call me crazy but I love the look of the steel wheels...more than the dinky 16" wheels. Two, here in Switzerland it's expensive to get wheels and the steelies were only $80/each rather than $335/each. So I was hoping to get the look and the cost I like. We'll see if it works out that way!

But I did want to post my findings for others who are looking at this option.

I would never have guessed that you are overseas. Why not put your location in your profile?

Great point.

Also, I've uploaded some quick iphone snaps of how these 16" steel wheels look on a Cooper S. You can also see how close the brake caliper is to the wheel.

I noticed that the Mini OEM steelies appear quite bulbous to accommodate the the brake calipers.. does that mean steelies from jegs.com would not fit?

if they would fit my r53 calipers, what tire size is suggested? Basically, how wide and how tall of a tire could I go with? 215/55/16 or can I go with 205/60/16? I'm currently riding on megan street CO's..

You should post this as a new thread in the Gen1 section. You'll get more attention there.
Plus, this thread has been dead for like 6 years...
(pretty sure the steelies are meant for size 195)

I have 16x6" steelies (from an Opel) with my R53 JCW brakes and they fit fine. Any 16" should fit with stock R53 brakes, most 15" too. My tire size is 205/50-16. I guess you can go taller if the car is not not lowered. And 215 wide fitment depends on the ET of the wheel of course.

Where can I find those exact wheels in the photos?

I like those rims a lot more than any I’ve been able to locate. Could you possibly provide a link to where I could find those?

175/60R16 or 175/55R16 I guess you could also go up to 185's

175/50-16 is way too small in diameter. 175/60-16 would match the oem size. Not sure about the availability tho... 185/55-16 might be easier to find..?

Sorry 60 series, this is the tire i had on mine when i ran the set, it was a factory MINI wheel and tire set that i got off a guy that he bought at the MINI dealership in the showroom Dunlop. SP winter sport 3D DSST 175/60R16 Looked like these and super skinny for the snow. The tires came on them and were pretty hard as they were runflats, but i got the set mounted and balance for very cheap from an owner who was selling his MINI. I would find non runflats.
