Tire advice - R105 on JCW Clubman with 5mm spacers

I have a 2009 JCW Clubman that I plan to put R105 wheels on this weekend with 5mm spacers to clear the brakes.

The wheels I bought used have the stock 205/40 tires on them but the rears are pretty shot. I'd like to go with a wider tire but not limit my ability to lower the car 1" or so in the future. It currently sits stock.

I'm looking at 215/40-18 tires as well as 225/40-18. Based on what I've read I won't have issues at stock height but I'm wondering if I'll be OK with both the 5mm spacer (~.2") and lowering it.

Any input would be appreciated.

A 225/40-R18 may give you some headaches for fitment, however its up to what you want to deal with.
It's been documented that even a 225/35-R18 can scrub; but again, that was moderately lowered.
The conservative approach would be the 215/40-R18.
