second set of tires/ wheels for autocross and other fun

i have 17 inch all seasons on my "S" and would like to pick up a set of tires/wheels (not too much $$$$$) for autocrossing and fun summer diriving. First, i need a recommendation on the ideal size for autocrossing. Then, i would like to have some specific combo suggestions. If i go to a smaller wheel, will that change my speedometer read out?

Not if you stick with the sidewall height that is on the Mini 16"(I think 40 or 45...not sure)....they'll be no change in the speedo. I think most autocrossers are running 16". Check out the Kosei K1 Racing wheels at tirerack.com I'm mounting a set today and they are sweet...

Is your car an S. Yes, smaller changes your speedo. A 1/2" smaller dia. will change speed and distance by 2.1%. (98mph instead of 100mph.) When you are competing for trophies, worry about dia specific for racing. Otherwise I think stock or a little smaller is fine. (I used 23", -1", on my 06 nonS and I have 24.1, -.4" ,on my 08 S. They feel just right.)

Quite an old thread to be reviving...

Anyway,
Honda Civic wheels from about 2002 to 2003 should fit. I have steel rims ment for an 03 Civic, no fitment issues and the hubcentric ring is the right size. I have not tested others, but the Civics of this same body style era should all have similar wheels (bolt pattern and hubcentric ring)

This has nothing to do with the original topic.

I think you are asking about a spare wheel not spare tire.

Yes, any 4x100 bolt pattern wheel with hub bore of 56.1mm or larger and offset of +38 to +48mm will fit. Minimum wheel diameter 15", max about 20".

For the OP which was originally asked in 2002.
First check what class autocross you would compete in. If stock classes then you have only limited choices. H stock base coopers have 15" and 16" stock wheels while G stock MCS have 16" and 17". JCW MCS come with 18" (from factory) or possibly 17".

Stock classes can run tires that are R compound or street tires.
Street touring classes run only Street tires DOT treadwear of 180 or higher.
Street Prepared classes can run either tire.
