I need a way to precisely monitor my tire pressure. My tires are Kumho Escta MX. I just figured out that gas station's AIR supply does not give correct readouts. I thought I was running 36/38 front and rear, but as I checked at a different location, the pressures were off. I see a lot of tire monitors for sale at places like Target and the like, but are they any good? Any recommendations? Oh, and is running 36/38 a little high, because the car seems to skate over imperfections in the roads. Not as much traction as I would like. Maybe I should lower the pressure a little? And sorry if this has been posted before. Thanks.

Most digital air guages have enough percission (sp), in that they will give you consistantly the same reading. Not 35psi and a min. later 38psi. That is really the important thing. The only way to know if your guage is accurate is to have it certified read $$. As long as it is consistant and it is the only guage you use you are OK. As i have always said, "A man with a watch knows what time it is. A man with two watches is never quite sure." If you are skating, drop the pressure.

Motor on

This is what I have, I've been surprised and satisfied with it's accuracy: http://www.brookstone.com/shop/produ...rch_words=tire pressure gauge

You can probably get one that's less expensive from another source, I get a discount at Brookstone.

Good luck!

I've had little luck with digital gauges. Take 5 reads, and you get 5 different numbers.

The best luck I've had is a good mechanical ol' Meiser AccuGauge. They're made in Chicago.

It seems to have some nice features, e.g., holds last reading and has a bleed valve. It's probably the bourdon (no, not bourbon) type gage, which is quite reliable and of which I keep two, one in each car.

I use THIS from OG Racing. The price is reasonable and you can bleed air whil the gauge is still on the stem.

I have the Accutire guage and like it. Only down side is it doesn't have a bleed function so you have to let a little air out at a time by pressing the guage part way on the valve to bleed off pressure.

i got a digital gauge from BMW that i've been very happy with. i've seen very similar gauges elsewhere for a few bucks less, but it's worth it even for the $30-40 bmw charges. i got mine a a BMW bike shop, but the car dealer can probably get the same part.
