A tire question for sprinted/aggressive drivers
There’s probably thread on this already, but I’m gonna ask anyway
I’m assuming that the really aggressive drivers are running aftermarket tires
How many miles are you aggressive drivers getting out of your aftermarket tires
(no runflats please)
I’m a really aggressive driver and I have Yokohama’s AVS-ES100’s, I have 10,000 miles on them (I rotated them at 5000) and their starting to look really weak

I've got the same tires (16"
with nearly the same number of miles (mine are around 12K miles now) on them as well as the rotation @ 5K and now @ 10K. The ones that I just moved from the front are nearly down to the wear indicators. The right side is much worse than the left side for some reason. The ones from the rear moved to the front, has probably another 5k miles. So I'm looking at about 17k miles out of them. Buy, hey, they're performance tires and there's cheap (relatively speaking for performance tires) too.
I don't consider myself an aggressive driver, but I too have AVS ES100s. Before I put them up for winter I've run maybe 15000 miles on them. Looking at them, I give another good 3000 or so. My wet traction (from the looks of depth) is going to get pretty weak though.
but for street, you don't need super sticky tires on these cars, the suspension
is well balanced. its only when you start doing the initialD stuff in the canyons
where you need sticky tires, i guess. the dunlop SP8000's have been my
favorite tires until i began using S03's by bstone.

No rubbing whatsoever with my 215/45/17 YokohamaES-100's with stock suspension.
So far, I have about 3000 miles on them, including one weekend of spirited driving at the Tail of the Dragon. The fronts are beginning to show wear, especially on the outside corners, and with rotation, I expect to get about 10-12k out of this set of tires.
These are great tires for spirited street use on dry roads. Wet traction is less than I would expect from a set of all-seasons, but acceptable in a climate that does not get significant snow/ice during the winter.
With the way I have seen you drive, koolmini, you should be happy to get 10-12k on a set of performance tires

gonna get a new set of 215/45/17's in the spring
wondering if i can push it to 225/45/17's ?????
also wondering if i should try a diferent tire, as well
is there anybody else out there that wants to speak-up with their proformance tire experiences?

For Yoko ES100 the most miles I have read owners got is about 20-22K but I am sure that is not with really aggressive driving. So there is potential for decent wear. Rotations every 5000 miles and good tire pressure and alignment all will help.

I would advise sticking to 215/45-17 or you can get some rubbing depending on your suspension.

Toyo T1S are about $150-160 discounted over the internet and are good tires. Tirerack doesn't carry them.
Bridgestone Potenza Pole Position S-03 are heavy but perform very well in wet or dry. Cost about $163 each and wear about the same as ES100.
Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 are new and replace the D2 (worth a look and at tirerack)

Randy Webb likes Falken Azenis Sport for autocross/street- performs well but doesn't wear as long as ES100.
Another performance tire by Yokohama is the Parada Spec 2 and while it performs well it is noisy and doesn't wear as well-maybe 12K miles.
Your best performance on many tires will come after about 800 miles of use and by a little more than half of the tread life gone might start to loose performance. Don't wait until your tires are really worn before considering replacing them as worn tires don't offer decent performance anyway.

minihune.....thanks again
but "rougher ride"= bad in the Northeast (NY)
........the roads here suck! just ask my old Perelli's side walls

I am a little late to chime into this thread. Excuse my lack of posts but I just came over from MINI2. I too run Yoko ES100 in 205/45/17. I had them on for about 4500 miles give or take before switching to my winter wheels and tires. Most of it was warm summer, around town driving. The front tires have maybe 30% tread left. The rears look almost new with the lines along the edge still partly visible. They are all very evenly weared but used hard. I am looking at selling what is left of them and my s-heavies and getting some light 16s. Right now with 15x5.5 cooper wheels with 175/65 tires the car is downright fun. I cannot believe how well it handles. More than fun for the winter months.
I took my Goodyear Eagle RS-A runflats off after only 1500 or so miles and they looked brand new. Sold them to Great-Gro and I believe he got over 20k miles out of his before he bought mine. They will last a long time, at least the all season goodyears will.
