Hi Chris, I don't AutoX, (though my husband is always trying to get me to do it when he does) but I don't want to rule out the possibility someday. I also love to tear up a tight and windy driving road, I like to show people what my MINI can do. I'm a spirited driver any other time. My husband is running Dunlop Star Specs on his M3 and says I should do the same, but they are quite the spendy tire. I have considered Kumho's (Ecsta 4x) and Conti's (Extreme Contact DW) based on Tirerack research as well as word of mouth from the BMW/MINI community. I would like to go to a 215-40(45)-17 but I just want to make sure that the tire I buy will work well with the Feathers and not have to worry about spacers or anything like that.

Center Caps
On a side note...
If you're looking for replacement center caps, this guy has them at a great price. (Compared to what people want for them on eBay.)

I had lost 2 of my original Feather caps after a few thousand miles, so I just pulled the other two off and drove around capless for a while. Anyway, these fit much better and tighter than the original caps ever did. I don't think these will be popping off anytime soon.
Here's what they look like:

The feathers will work with any 215/40 17, so you won't have to worry about that. That size tire won't cause any type of rubbing either. The wheels fit perfect on the Mini without requiring any spacers.
The Kumhos or Contis would be fine, I'd probably lean toward the Contis though.

bump the old thread
So after finding this through google and reading all 9 threads I am in need of some help. I understand that both the Deceptions and Feathers will clear the JCW brakes. I need some help on which one is work it. I AutoX the car a few times a month and need grip and leightness.
For the deception what is the most tire I can cram under there without loads of rubbing? A 225 Star Spec? And at that would I need to run spacers?
On the feather. What is the widest tire anyone here has fit on one?
Or do you also sell the backbone? which is a tad lighter than he deception but I dont know if they clear the JCW Brakes

Hi, I would actually go with the Feathers for a few reasons. They're the lightest wheel we sell, and we actually don't even sell the Deceptions anymore!
We haven't ran star specs on a MINI yet, but they should clear. Spacers would actually do the opposite of what you're thinking and give you less clearance!
We've ran 235/40 Falken 615s before, but they rubbed pretty bad on the fenders.
We don't sell the backbone, sorry!
