I would not recommend these studs or this company. It took Evasive over a week just to send the order out, even though they had the parts in stock. I had to call them a couple times after placing the order to see where it was. Same response every time. It will be on the truck tonight. So two weeks after the initial order I receive them. They installed just fine. Then upon torquing the wheels to 90 ft lbs one of the studs broke. I called Evasive again and they said to take pictures and send them to them and they would get the stud replaced. I did as they asked and called a couple days later and I can't get them to answer my questions. So I have decided to bite the bullet and buy another set from Way Motor Works.
These studs are junk and are going to get somebody hurt or worse!!
Evasive Motorsports is an appropriate name for this company!
I ordered 40 of them for my B Spec mini race car program. I installed a set of them with the car on jackstands. I put a stock wheel on the rear and ran the nuts on with my 3/8 Dewalt to seat the wheel - didn't torque them just ran them in to seat the wheel - 40-50 ft-lbs max. I was shocked to see that one of the studs had broken with minimal torque!
Taking a closer look at the broken part, i see several issues. First, the material quality/heat treat seems suspect. 2nd, there is a deep hex drive recess on the 12mm end that reduces the cross section and strength of the stud on the last 8 threads on the stud. 3rd, the overall length of the stud is so short that even with a stock wheel on the rear of a stock mini, the nut is only pulling on those last 8 reduced cross section threads. 4th, the root and pitch diameter of the last 8 threads is less than the threads in the full cross section area, even on parts that had never had a lug nut run down them.
I sent this analysis to Evasive along with the pictures below. They show the same failure mode as coorsbear -
First, he essentially accused me of overtorquing them - once i convinced him that I hadn't I asked him what they were going to do about it. He offered to replace the one I broke, which seemed bizarre given what I had just described to him and I really wasn't interested in. He said I could return the 24 I hadn't installed but that I couldn't return the ones i had installed even though I had only ever put lugs nuts on 4 of them and the first one i ran a lug nut down failed.
I replied that I thought the appropriate thing to do given the circumstances was to for them to take them all back, refund my money and send the broken one off to Malkin Industries/Wheel Mate to see what was wrong with it to keep somebody else from having the same issue with a lot more serious consequences than I had with the car on jackstands in the shop.
He still refused to take back the ones I installed - I sent back the 24 and waited for the refund to hit my credit card before posting this. It took 2 emails a week after I had sent the studs back to get them to respond to me about the refund status. I did finally get the refund for the 24 but am still stuck with 16 studs that I wouldn't put on a lawnmower.
As coorsbear suggested, I had also gone to Way Motor Works and got some real studs with heat treat and everything
Stay away from these Wheel Mate parts - they are a product liability lawsuit waiting to happen.
PM me if you have any other questions.
Thanks
Ed
