Looking for opinions on new tires

Hi everyone,

I need opinions on new tires for my 2008 mini. I currently have Continental run flats R16 87 195/55 that only lasted about 20,000 miles. I'm looking for something with higher milage so I won't have to replace every 1 1/2 years.

I put 12 - 15,000 miles on per year, and drive it year round in any Ohio weather. My wife is the primary driver, many highway miles as we are in a Western rural area. Looking for maybe a little smoother ride, with 40,000 - 50,000 tread life?

I have heard 17" will fit, can I use existing rims and what are the pros/cons to 17's?

Any help or feedback is appreciated, Thank You in advance!!

From what I've read on other threads on tires I would suggest sticking to 16 inch tires and also switching to non-run flats to give you a smoother ride. I really don't know much about tire brands and all that so I just look at their mileage warranty and reviews.

Check out Bridgestone Potenza G019 Grids, if you need an All-Season, I put these on last October and absolutely love them. Quiet, Smooth and a 50,000mi. Tread Life!!

Alex @ www.tirerack.com is very helpful in anyone's Tire Decision making...give him a call!!

Keep your stock 16" wheels and use All season tires that are

205/50-16

or 205/55-16 which is a little tall but will fit a MINI with stock suspension

For winter weather that is a little more snowy then-

Continental ExtremeContact DWS in 205/50-16. Ultra High Perf All Season tire
$105 each 540 treadwear
Especially good in cold climates/snow but also fine for dry and wet conditions and lasts long for a reasonable price.

In 205/55-16 and Ultra High Perf All Season tires
Bridgestone Potenza RE960 AS $120 each 400 treadwear
Michelin Pilot Sport A/S $129 each 500 treadwear

Bridgestone Potenza G 019 Grid is a High Perf All Season tire
$93 each 460 treadwear and H speed rated
Basic street tire but you trade off better handling found in the Ultra High Perf AS tires for lower cost.
