How bad is this Alex?
I was having my tires rotated today and a slash/cut was found in the treads. It goes from one part of the tread through the groove and back to the other tread. I looked and it goes deep. You could see that it does go down to where other than just rubber is showing but nothing else down there seems to be cut. I have no idea how it got there or for that matter how long it has been there. It's been about 4800 miles since my last rotation and it wasn't there at that time. It never leaked or had any signs of problems.
Is this something that I will need to replace the tire or is it fixable? I would be over joyed if it were fixable. BTW, they are the 16" Dunlops on the MCS.

Alex is very bad.
ooops I mean Alex is good.
If he doesn't leave a post (he must be trick or treating right now)
then just give him a call over at tirerack. Leave a message and he'll call you right back.
If it cut all the way through the rubber that would be bad. If it cut down to the metal belts that would be extra bad.
High performance tires are stressed under load and cornering. Not worth the risk.
If you do need to replace, non runflats are a good choice.

Argh! I was too late to leave a message for him at work. I'll try pm'ing him.
They are the 5000's with 10,000 miles. I had planned to go with non-run flats when these wore out. The guy that does my tire rotations said it was ok but...well, I thought Alex would be more experienced in this situation than my guy is. Though I must hand it to the local guy, he did repair one other tire that had a screw in it. I always wondered what would happen if I needed to repair a run flat tire now I know.
I have my first ever MlNl meet tomorrow about 60 miles away. I don't want to miss it.

well, considering that they are run-flats, if you really want to keep those tires,
i would put them on the rear and use it until you got enough cash to replace it.
bottomline though, i'd recommend replacing it. is a few hundred bucks
worth the trouble of sacrificing your entire car?

Yeah...I mean, there's this guy I know named Alex, and he seems pretty cool. But what about THIS Alex? How do I know that he's all that?

Goodmorning
As a rule if you can see internal construction when you r spread the cut open, replace immidiatley. If you do not see anthing but rubber, I would replace the tire as soon as possible, just monitor your tire pressure VERY closely!
Its just a weaker like that I would allow. It is "the weakist link"
Goodbye
