Will they or will they not fit... 225's?

Okay, after searching for over 3 hours, I cannot find a definitive answer so I'm asking straight out.

Anyone know if I can put a set of 225/35-18's on my 18x7" rims with 37mm offset?

It seems possible according to what I've read but can't verify it for sure.

The car is lowered on NM engr'ing springs if that helps.

Thanks guys.

Mark

Are you guys telling me that NO ONE has run 225's on a set of 7" rims?

Guess I'll let ya'll know how they fit.

225's work with a 7-inch width rim easily. 6.5 is pushing it.

I'm running 225/40/18 on the R109 7" wheels.

Am using 225/40/18 on the GP 7.5" wheels with 5mm spacer n going fine with H&R spring as well../Users/Zul404/Desktop/MINI 005.jpg

Thanks guys, I was just double checking since I seem to be getting conflicting answers.

I've got a set of 225-35/18's on order now. Once my present tires are gone, I'll swap over.

Thanks again,

Mark

Hey zul what 225/40-18 tire are you running?

OC 225/35-18 will fit, 225/40-18 will too on R56.

HeavyMetal Oct 23, 2009 06:11 PM

I am wondering about buying 16x7.5 wheels and I wonder if 225/45R16 will fit in a R52 ('05 S convertible). Could somebody give me advise if it will fit?

Not sure, but seems like it would. Off Set will play big roll in fitment. Check on your specific tires website for size & specs and check Overall Diameter and Overall Width or Section Width and compare to 17 or 18 inch wheel and tire combos that are well known to fit.
ie:OEM GP wheel OD-8.3" & OW-24.4" and OEM S-Lite wheel OD.-8.1" & OW-24.2"

Mark,

Did you mount those 225/35/18 tires on your wheels yet? Any rubbing issues with that setup?

I have the same wheels you got and I am also interested in moving to 225/35/18 tires once my tires wear out.

No, not yet... I've still got some life left on the S drives now but they're on they're last legs.

Soon...

Hey OC,
What size tire you running right now? Looks good w/those NM springs...minimal wheel gap.

205/40/18's which are within mm's of what the stock 205/45/17's are. The reason I'm going to the 225's isn't because they are wider (though that is a definite plus) but more so because of the aspect ratio, they are a bit taller. S

Since my speedo is 2-3 mph out from the factory, the 1/4" tire should offset it perfectly.

The 225/40-18 is a bit tall (.75" more than spec). The 225/35-18 is a better fit for tire diameter.

Thus the reason why I wanted the 35 ratio....

Size Doesn't Matter...It's About Tire Selection

I really do not like any of the tires available 205/40, 215/40, 225/35.
Really don't care about the "speedo" issue at all.
I won't do 215/35 seems like a corny size, I think 225/35 already thin walled enough that's on CA roads.

But look what is available in 225/40-18:eek2:
Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec
Kumho Ecsta XS
Bridgestone Potenza RE-11
Yokohama ADVAN Neova AD08
Toyo Proxes R1R
Hankook R-S3
Yokohama ADVAN Neova AD07
Nitto NT05
Falken Azinis RT-615
Hankook Ventus R-S2
Toyo R888
Toyo RA1
Yokohama ADVAN A048
Nitto NT-01
Michelin Pilot Sport Cup
I wish they made at least a few of these tires in 215/40-18:cry:
It's a shame:mad:

For me the issue would not be the speedo. I'd be more concerned with the taller "gearing" and reduced handling.(taller sidewall)

As far as sidewall, the 205/40 is virtually the same sidewall height as the 225/35.

Flynscot0256 Nov 4, 2009 05:19 PM

I have 215/35ZR-18 Goodyear Eagle F1 All Season on my GP rims and they fit good

Yeah, I moved from the oem 205/40-18 at 24.4 diameter to 225/35-18 GS-D3 at 24.2 diameter, which is discontinued. I think (hope) the grip levels will make up for the advantageous gearing. Plus, I do have 17x8s and I am looking for some 15x7 or 15x7.5s. But my problem is sticky tires for the 18 inch GP wheels.

I do have 225/35-18 on now, but they are not as forgiving as the Nitto NeoGens 215/40-17s I had before or the Toyo R888s 225/45-17 I got in addition to the OEM GP wheels (with the 225/35-18).

And those are some pretty sticky, if not the stickiest tires available in 225/40-18, that are not available in other MINI friendly sizes for the GP wheels, like 215/40-18:sad:

orangecrush Nov 5, 2009 03:40 AM

I wish bridgestone would make the size we need in an 18" for the RE-11's. Those things DO stick like glue....
