Have you used your Dunlop SP Sport 01 in an inch or two of snow?

They come on my JCW. If so, was it "passable" or totally white knuckle & a danger to yourself and the public?

You don't need to tell me the virtues of snow tires. I have a set of Nokian hakappalittas (sic) for my Jeep on the stock rims, and a set Nokians for my C43/55 off rims. I gambled we'd have light to no snow and didn't put them on either vehicle, or get a set of snow tires & rims for Lil'Buddy. And I have to venture out to get the wife from the train station later today.

So, just wondering, should/can I risk these tires if the road isn't black? I know from experience tire compound plays an enormous role, having had experience w/ Potenza SO-3, Eagle F1 GS-D3 & Michelin Pilots in snow. White knuckle to literally risking your and the public's life, especially the SO-3s in just flurries w/a dusting on the road (no salt yet). So wondering where the stock JCW tire's stand on the white stuff pass-ability graph before I try it? (the tires presently on my Jeep are worn to a point where their white-stuff pass-ability no longer exists from experience last year -- took out someone's mailbox in my village; I knocked on their door & told them -- so why I ask)

p.s. & fyi for any readers... just tried in on the hill of my driveway with one or two inches, and the tires worked much better than I expected, but I worry about stopping.

Interestingly, I recall MINI E-LSD marketing saying its use would help in snow, however I actually found the car to track more like the snow wasn't even there with full traction control enabled; with e-diff only the car would often start spinning the tires and car would slide to the left following the surface grade. Granted, all at very slow speeds. I know w/my rear drive C43 I'd need to turn traction control off to make it up hills (with snow tires) else the power would be squelched away by the ESP whereas with traction control off, I could spin the tires & make it up hills; might be the same for the MINI once on the roads.

I live in North East Ohio, as soon as brought home the JCW we had our first snow. More specifically I live in the Chagrin Valley area, the tires did not react well, barely any traction going up. Down is another story but I was going pretty slow both ways. That day I ordered Blizzak LM 25's online.

Thanx again. That was the experience I was hoping to hear. I know there's no substitute for snow tires in snow... just was wondering (and thought it would be good for everyone to read here) if the formula used on these tires allow them to be "passable" or "dangerous" in snow from anyone who's been through it.
