225/40-18 Feedback
Even though I've only had the car for about 36 hours now, I finally had the entire family loaded this evening.
My concern was with a tire this tall (25.1") and this wide (section width 9.1") that I may get some rubbing when loaded or when turning at full lock.
Took the wife and two kids to dinner this evening over a twisty country two-lane with some big dips and rough areas and never heard a single tire contact ANYTHING.
Also, at full lock in either direction I have NO contact, and I didn't even install the steering stops that came with the JCW wheels.
As an added bonus, people are now asking if the car is lowered because there is none of the dreaded "wheel well gap".
I went w/ the General Exclaim UHP and if these early indications hold true, I'll be reccommending them to alot of people. Completely silent and VERY grippy in the wet (we had some torrential downpours tonight which left some really deep standing water on the roads).
I just thought I'd share in case anyone else was considering this size or diameter tire.
Here's a pict so you can see how nicely it fills the wheel openings.

Normally we would caution using a larger tire due to clearance issues but with your stock wheels and stock suspension your tires seem to work OK.
Each MINI has a slightly different ride height and load. Your combo doesn't create rubbing problems so you're good.
Still be careful over dips in the road especially with passengers in the rear and don't overload your boot with heavy stuff.
Switching to aftermarket wheels would give a little less clearance depending on wheel width and offset, then the same tires may not work.

i think the R56 has more room when comparing to a R53 to stuff these tires...even lowered.
looks good on the clubman!
btw, we'll find out this week.
i have a set of Hankook Rs2's from my old audi TT, (225/40-18) in my basement.
new wheels for the Mini arrive today.
we'll see how it fits....and i'm lowered on H&R's.

Wheels are now on the car, along with the 225/40-18 R-S2's.
They fit great!! zero rubbing, even with the steering wheel at full lock.
Specs:
- wheels: Rota P1 - 18x7.5 et.45
- tires: Hankook Ventus R-S2 Z212 - 225/40-18
Went for a long spirited drive this afternoon and everything feels great.
The grip on the RS2's is fantastic, and rides much better than the run flats.
I did rub on the wheel liner once over a high speed corner with a sharp dip.
besides that everything feels great.
a couple pics.

sorry to bump a old thread but I was looking to do the same size tries as you guys but on a 18x8 +32 ... I have BC Coilovers coming and will be running upper and lower adjustable arms in the rear and have no problem throwing some camber in there. You guys think I can pull it off?
The reason Im so set on 225/40/18 is all the performance tires are in that size Bridgestone RE-01s, and RE-11, Advan Neovas, Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Specs, ect

Anyone with 225/40/18 on with 43 offset?
Just worry 2 mm extra may cause rubbing issue.
This combo with lowering looks super!
Thanks,
-Mike
