Will 215/45-17's fit my R50?
I have been informed on this site that tire height cannot exceed 24.3", yet I have read threads of other owners with a 215/45-17 tires.
I an interested in General Exclaim UHp tires 215/45-17 and the spec sheet from TireRack states a tire height of 24.6" will these fit my R50???? I currently have Yoko Prada spec-2's 205/45-17 that are worn to the bone. |

Owners of any MINI using stock suspension surely can use 215/45-17 but the dealership recommends using stock 205/45-17 tires which came with the car and were designed that way by MINI. Costco as well recommends using tires of the same size as OEM when possible. Your R50 and all other MINIs using stock suspension will be fine with 17" rims usually 17x7 with +48 mm offset or close to it and with General Exclaim UHP 215/45-17 $75 each, $83 each if you get 205/45-17! 215/45-17 is slightly taller than stock so you do get a little speedo and odometer error. It's minor for street driving. It's about 10 mm or 1.6% taller than stock. When speedometer reads 60mph (96.6km/h) actual speed will be 61mph (98.2km/h): about 1.7% faster. |

Well, I got the General Exclaim tires (215/45-17) mounted and balanced at a shop recommended by Tire Rack. Martin Tire on Park Ave Worcester, MA is AWESOME...~ 3 minutes after arriving and talking with the GM I felt like I was at NASCAR...3-4 guys were outside had my car jacked up with all 4 sneakers pulled off lickity split....man that was fast. The owner insisted on observing the process every step of the way from demounting to mounting and balancing..new equipment for mult sized rims and tires as well as a nice laser balancer. Each tire was $17.50 with new valve stems and caps as with each tire balance. I was itchin' to get ti on the highway and when I did...Oh man..I was crusing along and I looked at the speedo and I'm doing 90...If I had a 6 sped I would be getting a lot more speeding tickets.
Tire run and feel awesome...so far I'm happy. Thanks to everyone who helped me out with the tire purchase.... |
