Thanks for all of the help folks.

I just spoke with Leo and ordered a set of 912s in 215/45/17.

I decided on the 912 because I will be able to keep them on the car longer in the Fall and put them back on sooner in the Spring than I would be comfortable doing with the 452. You need to be prepared for surprise snow storms in this neck of the woods. I've had my snows on since early December and am really itching to take them off.

So, four 912's, including shipping, all for the same cost as one run-flat. I like that.

I'll let you know how I like them when I get them.

Thanks again.

Dean.

Looking forward to it. I'll probably be running a set of these when I buy some 18s in the not too distant future.

#20Works4Me,

What size tire are you using, and what is your overall assment of the 452s? I just bought a set of very lightly used tires from a buddy in 215/35/18, and now I am just waiting for winter to lose its grip on Chicago before putting them on my JCW. Will I be happy with them?

I bought my Mini used about a month ago with a new set of 912's on it, and I like them a lot. Great in the rain, and I had no trouble in the inch or so of snow we got a few weeks back. I can't speak to the alternatives but, for the money, I'd say they're a very good deal.

I just received my 17" 912's with the Enkeis RS6 wheels from edge racing and they look super sweet, im hoping to put them on the car next week since we got another snow storm today, i cant wait to feel how much different my MCS will be without those crappy stock run flats!

I'm looking forward to the same.

I'm going to try to sell my runflats. What do you folks think a set of 205/45/17 Goodyears with 8K miles on them should fetch ?

Its a huge difference over the stock run-flats, i dont actually feel every bump on the road, which makes for better driving satisfaction!
i havent tested the tires on hard braking yet but i noticed some difference on the way it corners on my way to work, so far, so good!

I love my new tires and going with 215s was a great suggestion ...I like the way they fill the wheel wells.

So far so good ...they handle great and are dead quiet.

Thanks for the help.

Dean.

+1 on the Falken Ziex. Got mine about 400 miles ago and great improvement in every way over the Dunlop runflats.

Sorry for not replying sooner, I've been on holidays from work for a month and away in Mexico. BTW Dean I'm glad you got your tires from Leo and sounds like you are happy! This is turning into a Leo love in thread!!!!

hefro I am using 215/40/18's which are a little over sized but I followed PGT's advice as he has had sooo many different combo's he speaks from experience. My experience...... I had 215/35/18's on my 02 MCS with wornout struts and shocks, the ride was very harsh and extremely unforgiving over bumps. I was going to go with 205/40/18's (only Proxes 4 available @ Edgeracing) but there were more choices in the 215/40/18 range and they fill the fender wells a little more. I have JCW suspension and there are no rubbing issues. As far as performance with the 452's they are exactly as Leo described. I live in a very rainy climate with a fair amount of snow fall so I knew I wanted to go with dedicated winters and summers but the summers needed good rain traction. The only way to get the tires to spin in the rain is to stomp it in first gear. There is absolutely zero hydro plaining. Dry traction will take the car to the limits of handling and they are very quiet! Leo also recommend the Toyo Proxes T1r's which are supposed to have better dry traction but shorter treadwear life, I have to admit I'm a big Toyo fan but I just bought my JCW and new wheels also winters so I cheaped out and saved the $15 per tire with the Falken FK452's. I might try the Toyo's next just to compare but I'm highly satisfied with the 452's especially for the price from Leo they would be hard to beat!

I just found this thread via google search. I purchased my 05 Cooper S two weeks ago and the noise/ride from the run flats is driving me nuts. Looks like I'll be ordering a set of 215/45/17 Falken Fk452's from Leo towards the end of the month.

I've had Zeix912's (205/40/17) for over 1k miles now and while they've been great thus far, I somewhat regret not going with the 452's. I was feeling cheap at the moment and figured the extra performance of the 452's wasn't necessary. It still isn't, but I can get my tires to slip in first and have DSC kick in a bit (only slightly, not enough to bog the car down).

Great traction in wet and dry though. Ride is super smooth. Overall a great tire.

Bump a bump.

ok. 2 driving light. Here are the initial impressions.

I had the 512's for a 1 1/2 years. I have them 205/60/15 on Konig all silver rewinds on my 2006 MCS BRG/BRG. I have it all chromed up within taste so it looks good, and the tires look good.

People forget how neat Falken tires can look in their design. I can say that the 512's looked a little cooler/gnarlier/more aggressive.

HOWEVER!

the 512's were a twofold increase in traction the way I have them over the 16's and runflats that I did have.

BUT! the 912's are SOO smooth. the 512's were pleasant ride but the 912's with just two days of light driving are absolutely more quiet and smoother ride. The sidewall being stronger, didnt really feel, but I probably wont as I have a lot of sidewall.

In just ONE Day im super super super happy. I drive like an absolute psychopath at times so my 512's died a sooner death than they should. the 512's drove fine in 5-6 inches of snow. I am guessing these will as well. more wall helps a lot in snow. I can let my air out a bit and bite in deep. I duno if this current pattern will do that as much, but that's a really unscientific concern as so far the RAIN grip of these is nuts with the coating being still half on and not broken in.

912's all the way.

Will give an update in 2 weeks.

Well it has been over a week now and I have been driving a decent amount. The grip is improved in dry weather over the 512's. That's a large statement to make. I wish I could try out potenza's to see the difference as this is what tirerack normally recommends for 15's and speeding around in a M+S style.

I JUST installed a set of Ziex 912s fitted to BBS R90s and WHAT a difference from the run flats.. It's like driving a totally different car.. And for a tire with a 40K mile warranty, it handles like a dream! Can't wait to see how they do in the rain, too.. They are smooth, quiet and look great also. And the local Wheel Works shop matched the Discount Tire Direct price of $77 each, though their installation was a bit higher. All in all a GREAT deal on a GREAT tire!!
