18's question
 

I'm looking at getting a set of 18's for my mini. I would like to put a set of 40 series on them instead of the 35 series tire places recommend. I have a good amount of camber, but i want to be sure the tires will work before i get some ordered. So if anyone has had issues or would recommend against the 40's your input would be greatly appreciated.

I'm at stock height with 215/40-18's but its a r56.
Wheels 18x7 40mm offset.
Tires barely rub only in the rear plastic fender flares. If i trimmed them ~1/8" there would be no rubbing.

OEM Fitment for 18's is 205/40-18, it can be done.

As gnaster mentioned the 205/40/18 is closest to stock, I had 215/35/18 and they are very unforgiving over bumps, I think tire shops recommend the 35 's because there is more availablity, and the 215/40/18 is slightly over sized even though there is greater availablity in this size over the 205/40's. I have JCW suspension and I'm going with 215/40's from Edge Racing, hope this helps.

Oh yeah, I've just fitted 225/35-18's and they feel decent. Tramline a little more then 215/45-17 and a little sharper on the shelf type transitions we have on Dallas's all concrete roadways. Fitted on 18x7.5 ET38. Mild rub when hatch has weight on sharp dips. So far so good. All 150 or so miles...

215/35/40 FTL.. VERY unforgiving...

I'd go with 215/40/18. Upon inspection, I had more than enough clearance on my R53 lowered with H-Sports. (I ran the 35 series)

i had 215/40/18 and stock height. No rubbing on flat road with one person in the car. Rubbing on bumps, with a passanger or more. Trimmed fenders still did rub when you travel with someone in the back... But the comfort was way better than stock 105/45/17rf

if I got 18s again i prpbably wouldn't go 215/40/18 again...

i was looking at the 215/40/18's i just wanted to double check with some people that have more experience with tire sizing than myself.
