Japanese Tires... 205/45/17 - 215/45/17
Ok... I know I know... there are so many threads about tires, but searching here is not easy.
Anyway, I'm about to get my 3rd set of tires for my '06 MCS. I'm running 215/45/17 Toyo Proxes 4... They are good, but not as expected. So I have these options in mind, please help me to choose. I'm looking for great performance, comfort and durability. I'm also unsure about going back to 205/45/17...
1. Falken FK452
2. Nitto Neo Gen 2
3. Falken Ziex Ze912
4. Yokohama Parada Spec 2
5. Hankook Ventus Sport K104
I don't want to spend more than $90 per tire.
I already tested the Falken FK452 and liked them a lot, great performance and excellent comfort. I am really sorry I returned them (liked more Toyo PX4s' look), anyway I think they wouldn't last too long.

I've been running them on the MCSc for about six months now. They grip the roads extremely well. When I was running the original run-flats, it was tough to take off without getting a little squeel and spinning them. The the 912's no such problem.
Check out the Nitto Neogens in 215 x 45 x 17......
Available at Discount tire for $86...Be sure to read the reviews...Very positive (5 star). Just put them on my car and they are really awesome.

I love my Falken Azenis RT-615s, fantastic traction, DOT approved. But I do not care about tread wear on those tires. They have a stiff sidewall so maybe not the most comfortable tire. Maybe you should be looking for some 16" wheels.
You could find some lighter wheels and less expensive tires in 16" sizes. The extra sidewall would get you a more comfortable ride. Do you have a Limited Slip Differential? That would go a long way toward solving your traction problems. Then you could choose a tire with a higher treadwear rating and still maintain traction because torque would be directed to two tires instead of just one.
Something like the Quaife LSD is a fantastic performance enhancement for quick starts or coming out of a corner.

lol... I know... Anyway... they are from Asia... Though I prefer Japanese tires. I just checked the review for Nitto NeoGen and everybody seems to be very happy with them. Anybody else running NITTO?

Yeah, I know Falkens are great tires! And the people from edge racing too.
Now I think I am between the Falken 452, Nitto NeoGen and Falken 912...
The only reason I keep thinking about the 912s is the treadlife, but anyway I think I care a little bit more about performance...

I'm running the 912s on 16s for my winter tire in Colorado.
Great tire, good traction in light snow and very good dry performance for a rated winter type tire.
I have taken one very long road trip from Colorado to Missouri. Very good on the twisty back roads of Missouri and just fine on the Interstate.
They did fine in some of our Colorado mountain snow, too.
Looks like they will last a few seasons as I will swap back to 17s in late Spring.

Wow, I am really surprised to hear this. I am running the 912's and thought they were horrible in the snow. My last tire was the Conti Extreme Contact and that did okay in the snow. At the time I thought they were adequate for an all season tire but could see where even still a snow tire would be a better choice.
Now after having the 912's in the snow the Conti Extreme's seemed like snow tires in comparison. To me the 912's seem more like a summer tire with a colder compound to still grip in colder weather, even though they are marketed as all season.
I am hoping the warm weather grip of the 912's live up to what I have read on the forums.

I am located in South Florida, a lot of rain these days. So I am between a Summer tire and an All Season.My option now are Falken 452, Nitto NeoGen and Falken 912.

Between 452 and 912, which one is better for South Florida? Keep in mind performance and treadlife.
Looks like the 912s have a higher treadwear rating but it is close 360 vs 300. That would be about a 17% better tread life with the 912s.
Just remember, you will need to rotate the tires every 3,000 to 5,000 miles and monitor the air pressure if you want to reach the predicted mileage. Also FL pavement seems to be particularly abrasive on tires, therefore decreasing tread life.

khd- your 912's will grip better in 40F+, i think. i motor'ed my car though
heavy rain the other weekend and it was 40F. grip was pretty good.
but i have to say, 912's in chicago winter sucks.

It seems like performance is a very big deal for you. If that is the case, then go with the Falken FK452. They will provide the grip you are looking for, but not the tread life that you desire. You have to decide on whats more important for you.

i love my nitto neogens in 215/45/17...just ordered them in 215/35/18 for my new rims.. the 215/45/17s were like 90 a tire shipped i believe. check out www.discounttiredirect.com

So which one would be the best in performance?
