205/50/16 on R84 V spoke X lite's ?
I need tires for my OEM 16 inch R84 rims. The stock tire is a 195/55/16.
There are not many choices in that size. Can I safely go with 205/50/16 ? My dealer says no, Tire Rack says yes. Have any of you put 205/50/16 tires on your X-lites ? Thanks. |
Many people have gone with that size on the 16" wheels; have you asked your dealer what they think the problem is? Certainly not rubbing.

I've seen that size on factory 16" wheels (all of which are 16x6.5) a LOT, including the x-lites, including one that was sitting at the dealer waiting for service. It's no problem at all.

Absolutely. I'm on my second set of 205-50s on my X-lites. Even with a lowered stance there are no problems.

Yes, I had 205/50/16 on my stock 05 mcs with x lites no problem. I've run into Costco not willing to install any size other than oem, but any decent tire shop shouldn't be telling you it can't be done. I don't know if I'd go back to the dealer who told you no, even if they changed their mind. If you have to educate them, what else don't they know???

Thanks Guys !
Thanks for the help. I have a many more choices in that size. I surmise that the dealer didn't want to stray from the OEM spec because those are the only tires that he gets. Mini probably dictates that.
I'll start a new thread on what type of tire to get. Thanks again for all of your help. |
I've run 215-45 - 16's on my Xlites for years. Work great, don't rub. However, they tend to wear out in middle of tire a little quicker, which is understandable since the rim should really be 1/2" to 1" wider for that size tire. Still, good traction for dry weather with this size.

As echoed by others here, 205/50/16 work fine on the x-lites. The sidewall will be slightly shorter relative to the 195/55/16s which means your speedo will be off slightly and you may a slight bit more wheel gap. However, the selection of lighter weight, better handling, more inexpensive tires will more than offset this tradeoff.
Good luck! |
