Team Dynamics Motorsports wheel pictures

I picked up some Team Dynamics motorsports wheels for a good deal a while ago and then painted them Graphite Gray with Duplicolor paint. They turned out really well. Its a little darker than anthracite but oh well...

These are my favorte team dynamic wheels that is for sure. I love the stock R99 wheels and these are similar to those. Tires are Falken 912's. I wanted to put summer tires on them but I had to replace all the tires pre-maturely because of a pot hole and could not justify 2 sets of tires in the same month.

Excuse the dirty car. We have had crappy weather the last few weeks.

Very nice.

How did you prep the wheels for paint?

- 3m scotch pad to scuff them up really well
- tack cloth to remove any dust and debris
- 3 very light coats primer
- 5 or 6 coats of the Dupli color graphite gray (very light coats to begin with then a couple heavy coats.
-wait 7 days
-1 round of 800 and 1000 grit wet sanding
-tack cloth again
-1 more thick (not too thick) color coat
-2 or 3 coats of clear
-dry for 7 more days and one more good coat of clear.

Some tips on working with the dupli color paint. Sometimes when using the paint I have found it can leave a dusty film layer on the surface. I found placing the can of paint in front of a space heater for about 10 minutes really helped the paint flow out of the can and eliminate this dusting effect. Also holding the can too far from the surface creates the dusting effect also. The Duplicolor paint works very very well. Oh, also sometimes I would use the tack cloth between coats of the color because if there was any of the dusting effect it would keep it to a minimum.

They survived tire mounting with out any scratches. Depending on how well they hold up I may eventually have them powder coated. I got the wheels for a good deal but the color was not what I wanted...

^Wow, some people go through less trouble than that to paint an entire car. But, credit on the paint. It's dark enough that it really stands out against a bright silver car.

Agreed. I really like the contrast against the silver car.

I've contemplated taking this project on myself, but it's been so cold and wet here, not exactly conducive to paint projects.

I know, kind of compulsive. It sounds like a lot more work than it really is. The first 2 or 3 coats are really light coats to make sure everything lays down really flat and adheres well. The waiting 7 days between was because I did not have an entire day to finish the project and the instructions on the can say if you wait more than an hour between coats that the paint needs to fully cure before adding more paint.

I agree on the contrast. It is however a few shades darker than I was hoping for but I can't find a true anthracite wheel paint. In actual sunlight it looks slightly lighter but still a dark or "graphite gray" as the paint can suggests.
