Wilwood 13" kit and grinding for fit
Does anyone have a Wilwood 13" or larger kit installed that can tell me more about the grinding for fit?
"Clearance grinding for the TCE 13" kits sould be done with a 4" Makita style grinder. When used the process will take only about 5min per side." |
probably should move this to tires wheels and brakes

It's a very easy mod, this grinding. What worries do you have? No grinder?
Don't let this bother you if it does. I've been running these on the track for a while. |
I think it's the lower part of the knuckle or ball joint area on the control arm
it's been so long that I don't really remeber. No big deal.....

The grinding is on the Wilwood caliper, to clear the hub carrier. You can also grind the carrier instead, or do a little of both, which I think I did.

The issue is "nesting" the nubs or mounting bosses of the caliper between the nubs of the steering spindle. While taking a bit off the caliper is ok, I prefer it be removed more from the iron spindle where there is more meat to be lost without any potential loss of critical material. In either case it really is a very small amount and will take less time than you think. Fitting the mount bracket to the spindle and then trying to fit the caliper to it (no rotor yet) you can easily see why and where. The other side of the car becomes a snap.
All of that probably could have been avoided if I'd opted to do a custom 13.2" or so rotor but for inventory purposes it's the same 13.0 as used on many other kits. Besides, you needed an excuse to buy that $40 Makita didn't you? LOL! Oops, looks like they're a bit more money today. $54 http://images1.hdpi.com/product_enla...der_9553NB.jpg |
Thanks for the replies. I just wanted more detail before I purchased anything.
