This might date me but … remember when you were a kid and your parents bought you brand new tennis shoes? Maybe you gave up a pair of your old, ratty PF Fliers for a new pair of Converse?
Remember how they made you feel – that you could run faster, jump higher and turn corners on a dime.

I just put on a set of Yokohoma AVS ES100’s (205/45 -17) and that’s how I feel. The car handles better and seems to have a little more oomph at green lights (I haven’t tried any jumps yet).

After 32,000 miles my run flats were polished. Barely any tread left on them to speak of.
So my impression might be skewed, since the Perelli’s haven’t been at their maximum performance level for quite a few miles.

But I have to say that I’m impressed.

Are you running S-lites with your Yoko's?

Cheers,

Mine are due to arrive today. I'll keep you posted as to my thoughts. BTW, I ponly have 10.5k miles on my pirellis, so they're still pretty grippy so I can do a good test between the two.

I replaced my 16" all-season run flats at 11k miles with the AVS ES100's. I now have 21k and have loved every minute with these new "shoes" I have run 2 auto-x, spent over 3 hours of track time on them (8 25 minute sessions over 2 days) and communte over canyon roads at speeds that cause others to scream in horror/delight with no chunking or unusual wear. They are getting a bit thin in the tread department. I am now working towards getting a set of 16" R90's, remounting my run-flats, and keeping the Yoko's for track/auto-x use to extend their life. After the Yoko's are done, it's on to r-compund tires

I to replaced my junkflats with the Yoko es100 215/45/17 and love them.I was saving up for some lighter rims/r tires but had to replace my stock tires when i hit a pothole and put a blister on one.i'v ran one autox so far with the Yoko's..they seemed to like a little heat to me. i allso will be running a track day next weekend!
I started with 40/38 psi then went down to 38/38 on the last run just to see how they do.they seemed to like that as i did speed up a little. i'd like to hear what pressure you run your tires at bluegravis..seems most people have trouble with chunking with these tires. i'm still going to get some rims/r tires for autox/track days, but for everyday"play" i happy with the Yoko's.

HIJACK!

What pressure do you run in your Yoko's? I have the same sneakers and I'm trying to find the best street pressure.

Tankee!

I would start with OE pressures.

I just saw this thread pop up again... to answer the highjacked question of pressures:

First auto-x, first pass I ran 35 all the way around, 2nd pass bumped fronts to 38 and rears to 36, 3rd pass left the fronts alone, and bumped the rears to 40. This last set-up works best for my driving style. I like the rear to rotate a bit in the middle of the corners... a bit like driving a rear wheel drive car (which I grew up with, Datsun 510 anyone?)

Second Auto-X started with my last set-up and REALLY liked it, felt almost perfect.

Track day last June at Willow Springs in So. Cal. Hot days, 95 degrees plus on a fairly rough surface. Started at 35 all the way around and left it there. After my first session, the tires were at 39 front and rear, fairly gummy without chunking. I liked the rotation I was getting so I pretty much left it alone. I did rotate the tires after the first day and I did notice a bit less turn in cripness the second day. I attribute this to the slightly greater amount of tread on the "new" fronts. Had I really thought about it, should have put a couple of pounds in the front...

Just my experience... I hope to have some more track time in August at California Speedway... talk about a "hot" track!!!!!

>>35 psi?

The manual recommends 33 for two people. That seems a bit splashy for me but when in Rome....

I'll try it out and report back.
