My Pirelli's are worn out already?
My Pirelli tires are already showing thread with only 9k on them.
I didn't think that I was that much of a lead foot. Does anyone have any recommendations? Does anyone have a used set of Pirelli's for sale? |
All four, or just the fronts?

From all the years I have been involved in buying tires I have never found Pirellis to be notoriously long wearing. I will get over 50K at the rate I am going from my Michelin Pilot Exalto PE2s and they handle great. About $135 for 205/45-17 s but well worth the price!

check your alignment! particularly toe.

I know, be nicer to the gas pedal and the tires will be nicer to me. I have noticed a strange pull from time to time that feels like the front tires are trying to go in two different directions, kind of like what you would feel in a rear-wheel drive vehicle if the front end toe went out. But I figure it is more likely my numerous drives to the North Carolina twisties. |
I replaced my pirellis at 17K. I had not rotated them til 12K miles (stupid I know). The 2 that spent the bulk of time on the rear still looked practically new & the 2 that spent the most time on the front still were not to the wear bars so I could have kept them on longer. I don't consider that bad mileage for low profile performance tires. If yours wore out at 9K you may wanna check your alignment

So I am going to have that frontend checked out. It just doesn't seem right that they would wear that quickly. Even if I do take the twisties every so often. I know of more agressive drivers that get more mileage out of their tires. |
9k miles is soon, but not entirely unusual.
Most of the Mini's we get in w/ the euphori@ tires do not have high mileage on them. But then again the O.E. Dunlop 9000's are just about the same. It's part of the reason, besides the poor ride, that a lot of people take them off and replace them w/ conventional tires.
I would recommend replacing the worn tires and have the alignment checked. Keep the tires rotated every 5000 miles to disperse the wear evenly between the tires, and don't forget to check your tires' air every month. Most people (incl. myself) forget to check the air and don't notice until the steel belts are showing. HTH |
