Blizzaks vs. Nokians?
This year I bought a set of Blizzak Revo 1's for my son's car in the same 185/65/15 size for $57 each from Tirerack. Then they sent me a $50 rebate.
Not to belabor this thread any further, but I have the Nokian RSi's on both the BMW and the Mercedes noted in my signature. Nothing stops them, nothing. Combined with the traction control, the vehicles just plow through almost anything.
Last year, in a blizzard, with the tires just put on the BMW, I went out and found a completely unplowed 3/4 mile long uphill road that crested and then dropped steeply to a cul-de-sac, so I had to turn around and go back up that short slope with very little running room. There was about 6-7 inches of snow on the road already. Up I went. I couldn't get the car stuck if I tried.
I wanted the best for these hardcore, torquey, rear drive cars, and I got it. Amazing.

I have had Nokian WRs on my '86 BMW during the winter for 6 years and I can't get the car stuck even while it is busy plowing snow with the air dam. While I'm trying to avoid paying the price the Nokians command, it's worth it for the peace of mind.
In case anyone wanted to know, as the original poster, I ended up with Blizzak WS-60s from Tirerack on 15" F2 wheels. Wheels, tires and shipping came to $689. I couldn't justsify the $122 per tire my local tire retailer quoted me for the Hakka 4s.
I have the Nokian WR and I love them! I have had Blizzaks in the past (on a 323 GTX) and they did a great job too. The Nokians will last longer though.
By the way, the WR G2 is now available:

Don't blame you at all. Let us know how the new Blizzak WS60's work once you get some snow driving on them.
