Koni FSD's with or without rear sway bar mod?
I have seen lots of comments on FSD's with various springs but nothing on FSD's with different rear sway bar setups. Has anyone done FSD's with a 19 rear bar with stock springs? Any experiences with other combinations?
Thanks in advance for any comments. |
I have an '06 Cooper (MC not MCS) with the standard sport suspension, and will probably do the FSD/Hsport combo in the next week. I already have the Hsport 19mm rear sway bar. PM me and I'll let you know how it works out - the 19mm rear bar should simply help reduce understeer and shouldn't impact the effect of the FSDs - i.e. should simply help the overall handling effect.

I did FSD with Alta 19mm rr sway installed at the "more stiff" setting. I'm VERY happy with this combination. I kept the stock S "sport" springs, which are linear rate, rather than progressive (most if not all of the lowering springs are progressive) and therefore are a bit more "predictable" during cornering. I was also hesitant to lower due to Koni's cautions against doing so with the FSD. However, I too have read several posts saying they did mild lowering and have not had any problems.
The changes I noticed: smoother and quieter ride:thumbsup: much more pleasant on long trips and daily commute:) turns in better (a bit less understeer) VERY little body roll:nod: I think the 22mm might have been too much for me, but I've often wondered anyway whether I might like one. I'm too cheap to just buy one to try it out, though. MOtor on:thumbsup: |
The two functions
are somewhat separate functions.... Shouldn't matter, and I think cars with FSDs still exhibit understeer.

FSD's are on my wish list. I have a H-Sport rear sway bar & highly recommend one to every MINI owner who wants a better handling car. It's a high bang for the buck mod.
