The only thing that I can think of is that even with the washers in there to fill the gap. There was still enough of a difference in size that let some binding occur. Since I can't find a bushing setup to my exact size, other than having a company make them. I just going to use a heim and I'm going to mill spacers so that the tolerances are almost perfect.

Well got the heim joints and the covers in today, just have to get the steel over to my buddy so he can get them all made. The covers are Interesting, I've never seen them before so I hope they work.

Well my buddy wasn't able to mill the spacers for me, he was out of town. So I had my local machine shop do it. They only charged me $30 and they turned out great. Just have to install and test this setup. Hoping for good results this time!

I have had these:http://store.helix13.com/helix-rear-...-control-arms/ on my car for a few years now, not a hint of noise out of them. Looks like you are evolving to a very similar solution.

Love the DIY.

Yeah, I wanted to go towards a poly setup because I was always afraid of the heim being exposed to the elements, but after finding out speedway motors has covers I decided to give it a shot. I currently have $130 invested in this current setup. Just a fun little project and if it works I'll save some money.

New set has been on the car for 2 days, SO FAR SO GOOD! No popping or binding that I can hear. Everything so far is going as planned. Going to drive it for another week or so and see how it does or if any strange noises come around.

Update?

Any updates on how they're holding up? Did the noise come back?

So far so good everything seems to be holding up great. Unfortunately I have a blown rear shock (will be in tmrw, so I can replace it.) So I have some clunking noises. I'm almost positive that there is no noises coming from the arms unless they started when the shock went. But in regards to the popping sound I originally had I deff do not have that anymore, that was gone the day I installed the new setup and hasn't been back since. When testing to make sure it was a bad shock I put the stock shock/coilover on and I didn't have any noises so that also makes me believe that this new control arm setup is working the way it should. I'm replacing the shock tmrw so I'll know if any new noises have started that are related to the arms.

These really ain't any different than Alta's other than I think Speedways heim joints are better with the seal. I also didn't know that upper and lowers are the same. These are on my short list to get done. http://altaperformance.com/i-1600967...all-minis.html

yeah they are not really different from alta or other types. But they are half the price and that was my ultimate goal. Make somthing that works and saves me money. I'm a college student that only has so much money.

I have $130 invested in the lower arms when I do the uppers I'll still be cheaper all in than if I bought just the lowers from alta or any other company. I'm all for supporting our sponsors and the mini world, but like I said I'm a college student and if I can save some money I'm going to try.

1750316. LH heim joint. x2

1750116. TH heim joint. X2

91001504. Heim seals. Only 6 come in a pack so you would have to order two for each set of arms.

Thanks for this information.

I’m ordering parts to do this. I’m not going with heims, I’m going to use the original ends as ordered from speedway but with a real urethane bushing, energy bushing 9.9105. This adds about $12 to each bar. I’m also using a sweged aluminum radius rod, just because I like them more. I’ll put up pics as the project develops

I’m probably going to machine a pair of aluminum arms with no adjustment as well. I’m ordering an extra 4 bushings for this. I’m a CNC programmer, costs nothing but my time.

I may end up putting the solid bars on the bottom for visibility... I’ve always liked that how you can see the arms on EG Hondas. Would there be a downside to this?

So I ended up doing this...

I replaced bushing with energy 9.9105 bushings.

https://www.speedwaymotors.com/Black...eim,53323.html

I used a 17” length, I’d probably go 17.5 if I were to buy again.

I used some hardened 1/2 washers on each side to set width.
