Your MCS coilover reference thread. Pictures and info
OK guys I think with all of the talk about coilovers lately and all of the past threads we need to create one of these threads to compile all of the info in and have the mods sticky it for everyone:thumbsup:
Please add to the list and I will transfer all of the info to the first post:nod: Hopefully we can gather as many pics and choices that we won't know what to do with all of the info:lol: Please give the drop that they allow and the spring rates:thumbsup: Any prices and if they come with camber plates, etc...as well:nod: How-to install coilovers found here! **Note: Spring rates listed are as advertised, most companies will substitute different rate springs to suit your needs. I'm pretty sure most coilover companies will supply any spring rate you ask without an extra fee...
|
Cool...I will see what I can find.
In the meantime, do you guys know anything I have not posted or any info that is different than posted? Bring on the Pics:nod: |

03 MCS Attachment 173100 i can't give an exact spring rate, but i do know front floats somewhere around 500 and rears around 450 |
Thanks for the pic and info...
Lets keep it coming:) I will try to post prices soon as well...I will try and find an average off of the market, not the M.S.R.P. |
Also, feel free to post any impressions and experiences with the coilovers:thumbsup:
The more info, the better the thread becomes. |
Is it possible to get some sort of chart that can show how many people have certain coilovers? Like a poll that shows the results as a bar graph or similar?

This is all a very good effort done by ChrisMCS04 and I thank you for starting it. It would be nice to see the coil overs with info and pictures of the rides. On the other hand, I believe that there is a great feature on this site, which is the Products Review.
In the past few months I liked using that part of the site more and more due to the ability to read a more focused review on the product itself without having to read about lots of other things that are not related. The rating is great too and direct pros and cons really seal the deal. Currently the only CO review is on the Megans... and they rate around 9 or more, which is great value for the money. We could encourage people to use that section of the site more for easy and direct accessibility for everyone  Again, thanks ChrisMCS04  |
No Problem:thumbsup:
|
I decided to post this here since they are not produced yet...

Good call on this thread Chris. I'll be sure to post my impressions on the PSS9's once I get them on the car.
Also, you could add the Bilstein PSS. I hadn't heard about it till I went on the site but maybe someone here has them. It's basically a "stage 1" coilover, no damper adjustability, just ride height. |
Cool:thumbsup: will check it out and add it to the list...
I know there is a spring thread, but I wanted strictly coilovers in here... Does not matter how simple or complex...just has to be a coilover:grin: |
Megan coilovers: 2nd version 1.5" drop 8kg/6kg. 0 to 32 dampening rates.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2114/...cf2d1b69_m.jpghttp://farm4.static.flickr.com/3185/...92c843c7_m.jpg In this picture you can see the colars stacked on top of each other in order to achieve the 1.5 inch drop. Megan offers a different shorter spring/shock allowing for close to a 2.0 inch drop which you can be seen in this photo.http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2135/...e747c5fa_m.jpghttp://farm4.static.flickr.com/3094/...84fc73de_m.jpg Cross coil overs: .drop 0.5 to 2.5 inch drop, optional spring rates. 8kg/6kg or 7kg/4kg. 0 to 15 damping rates. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2240/...458998f4_m.jpghttp://farm4.static.flickr.com/3069/...ac02cff1_m.jpg http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2276/...5256ccb3_m.jpg In this picture you can see that the Cross system can go quite low. There was still at least a 1/2 inch that they could be droped  . http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2265/...b65e1f.jpg?v=0 End result ! |
Great info paulie:thumbsup:
I will add one of the Cross pics and the rest can stay here in this post...I don't want the first post to be pages long:lol: I have to figure out some sort of organizing when this is all finished:thumbsup: |
Wake- I did not find anything for the Mini with just the PSS system...its all PSS9's...where did you find it? I checked Bilstein.com...
|
WAKE... slam it... do it..do it ... Doooooooo eeeeeiiiitttt :lol::lol:
and make sure you post me some pics  Chris... I think it is PSS9s... he's just to lazy or to busy to type it all :lol::lol:

Sweet:thumbsup:
I know that they make a PSS system, but did not think that they had one for our cars... A buddy has a Cranberry Red GTI VR6 with a stage 3 VF supercharger kit on it:eek2: dropped on PSS's |

Thank you for the compliments. I really like you car too!
I think I am going to start limiting the pics at the top to one or two for each type...I will post one of yours up top, but it will be later today:thumbsup: Any info on the spring rates? |
I see EXACTLY what is causing the lack of drop if you look at the difference between the McPherson braket the Megan is REALLY tall and the Cross is at the minimum which is what I am thinking about doing to mine is take it to a pipe saw and cut about 3 inches off the top of the bracket which i see no need because the threads aren't at the top they are near the bottom.

Also, here is the best price on the RSS kit:
http://www.tirerack.com/suspension/s...7.2&perfCode=A $1,209 at Tire Rack. They have had that same price forever. :) |
